Usually my place to go in Antigua is Roti King as I am obsessed with their shrimp roti. However, on this visit I decided to try something different. I was terrified because I hate being disappointed with food. But I decided to take a walk anyway and I saw the Alligator Bar & Restaurant sign. Figured it can't hurt to try. THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT. My meal was the conch and shrimp in garlic sauce (done to order but service was quick) with a side of macaroni pie and fried sweet/ripe plantain and a tall glass of ginger juice. The garlic sauce was very flavourful.. so good that I did not have to add any pepper. I love my seafood dish with plenty pepper, but the sauce was so good that the pepper was not necessary. The macaroni pie was good (before you Bajans ask...no, not as good as yours 😊 but I enjoyed it). No comment on the plantain because plantain is life 😎. And the ginger juice had a serious kick, I dam near choked, but that's how i like it. Then to finish off, I had the local beer "Wadadli" and a piece of chocolate rum cake (why not, I was in vacation mode so alcohol on top of alcohol). I definitely recommend. One love and Safe travels.

I had the curry conch and the conch scampi. The portion size was ok given the price. It took a while for the food to arrive as there was many orders and only one cook so be prepared to wait for a bit if it is busy. The curry conch was soft and tender and the texture was similar to that of abalone. The curry sauce was good, even though it wasn't as spicy as the curry conch at Roti King. I enjoyed the curry conch but the sides (cole slaw and potato salad) that I chose were forgettable. The conch scampi was also delicious. Soft and tender conch in a garlic butter sauce. Yum! For my sides on this dish, the fries were good, the macaroni pie so so. I would go back again for both the curry conch and the conch scampi.

An amazing place for lunch in the heart of St John’s! I was attracted by its colourful, inviting decor and its varied menu. I ordered a plate that came with two sides. I chose conch as the main dish and I loved its texture and the sauce! It reminded me of the meat of smaller conches that I used to have as a kid in southeastern China - but similar food is so obscure on menus in Canada. I chose fried plantain as one of the sides, and the portion was quite small, but I loved the fungee - thank you to the waitress for explaining what it is to me, I didn’t know it was the national dish of Antigua when I first saw it! Overall, a delicious, filling, and affordable lunch. Plus, the washroom was really clean!

I went to this restaurant today for the forth time and had such a weird experience. First off I wanted curry chicken and was told they only serve their curry chicken with shrimp in it, I dont like shrimp and they make the food right there so I dont understand why I couldn't have it without shrimp. Second they serve thick cut plantains so I asked if mine can be sliced a bit thinner, she told me they are presliced and cannot be changed. So basically you cannot have your food the way you want it.. Also there are so many flies its hard to eat your food there as well. But the worst part of my meal is when I needed to leave. I asked to have my sons food to go since they had made his fish wrong and had to redo it so he was left to eat just his french fries which I didn't mind. But when I asked to get some take out containers for his french fries and my left overs she told me that the fries can fit in his plate of fish and salad and they will have to charge me an extra dollar for the extra container for his fries. I was taken back, I paid what seemed to be a ridiculous amount of money for the portion of food we received and left. To be completely honest, the food was not great either, I wont be returning to...
