When you are on a Caribbean cruise and disembark for an island stop, it is so refreshing to try something cultural to the location. Here in St. John’s Antigua, is the best chicken roti ever! For only $10 US, you get a quality roti that is substantive enough for any appetite. All the locals come here! When you cut into the roti, it bursts fourth with delicious chicken gravy, literally an Antigua demi-glace. Unlike roti rip offs back home, Roti Kings are stuffed 85%chicken, 15% potato. And how nice it is to find some spicy kick when you step off the homogenized non-threatening flavours of a cruise ship that has to cater to passengers who find Chipotle, daring. Roti King is only three blocks from where the cruise ships dock. It’s an excursion well worth the value.

I googled and saw that they open at 10 am. I arrived at about 10:10 am. The store front was not open but I smelled cooking so I entered at the side and had a seat on a bench. There were a lot of flies but they keep their garbage covered, so that's a plus. Anyway, it was getting close to 11 o'clock and I was getting perturbed. So I asked a worker if the conch roti was ready. She got a response from someone else that said it'd be about another 40 mins. I'm visiting so I sat and waited. When I got to my destination, I devoured both items shamelessly. The aloo pie was filled with mashed potatoes as it is traditionally prepared. I then delved into my conch roti that was filled with succulent pieces of curried conch and potatoes. I enjoyed my meal!

Everywhere we asked for good roti, Roti King immediately rolled off the tongue of business owners and locals. We've heard so many great reviews and compliments without hesitation, and hearing that the owners were Trini made me even more excited to have my Fiancé have roti here for the first time. We finally made it yesterday, our last full day in Antigua, where we enjoyed and shared fish and beef roti. A few short hours later we both experienced discomfort in our stomachs and decided to stay in and skip dinner. Later into the evening the stomach pain and cramps got worse, ultimately resulting in both of us having diarrhea. We truly wanted to have the wonderful Roti King experience everyone has bragged about, but unfortunately our experience ended in illness.

Would highly recommend making Roti King a must visit destination for lunch during your trip to Antigua. This was my 3rd time to this restaurant over the years and it never disappoints. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are huge. It is very busy with locals which is always a great sign. We went with friends for lunch and were really hyping up the fact this would be the best meal of our trip and it was. I went with a double and the lobster roti. Both were exceptional, great flavour and complimented each other. The hot sauce is a must for both of these dishes. Great taste of Trinidad right in St. John's. Next time I'm back in Antigua I will be back.

Read reviews about this local spot and it’s really true about what people states. It can be deceiving from the outside but the food are amazingly good and cheap eats. Seems like all the locals come here to eat and order to go . They have tons of bench tables outside for dining in . We had the chicken curry along with the beef curry . We requested for the bottle of hot sauce it’s a must and tasted so good with the sauce . Both chicken and beef was so delicious . We will come back for it again since it’s a quick bite and don’t need to spend money if you are on a budget.

This was my second time at Roti King and the curried conch roti was as good as I remembered. The curry conch was soft and tender and the texture was similar to that of abalone. The curry was just spicy enough and not too salty. There was a decent amount of conch and the roti was perfect for mopping up any leftover curry. It may seem like you can eat and walk with this thing at first but just get a seat at one of the indoor or outdoor tables. If not, it's gonna be a mess. I will be back the next time I am in Antigua.
