A Culinary Gem: Bao Kitchen in Buenos Aires
My wife and I recently dined at Bao Kitchen in Buenos Aires, and it was an experience that left us utterly delighted and craving more. From the moment we stepped into this vibrant eatery, we knew we were in for something special. The warm ambiance, attentive service, and an enticing menu brimming with bold Asian-inspired flavors set the stage for a meal that exceeded every expectation. Hands down, Bao Kitchen has claimed the top spot as our favorite restaurant in Buenos Aires—and one of our all-time favorites anywhere.
A Feast of Flavors
Every dish we tried was a testament to the kitchen’s creativity and commitment to quality. There was a depth of flavor to every item, everything had its own unique flavor, and they were all so delicious. Here’s a closer look at the standout dishes that made our evening unforgettable:
Curry Empanada: This was not your typical empanada. The flaky, golden pastry encased a fragrant, perfectly spiced curry filling that balanced warmth and complexity. Each bite was a delightful fusion of Latin American and Asian influences, with just the right amount of heat to keep things exciting. It was a bold start to the meal that set the tone for what was to come.
Taiwanese Bao with Pork Belly: If there’s one dish that encapsulates Bao Kitchen’s magic, it’s their pork belly bao. The steamed buns were pillowy soft, practically melting in the mouth, and served as the perfect vessel for the rich, succulent pork belly. Glazed with a savory-sweet sauce and topped with crisp pickled vegetables and a sprinkle of herbs, this bao was a harmonious blend of textures and flavors. It’s the kind of dish you dream about long after the meal is over.
Beef Noodle Soup: Comfort in a bowl, this dish was a masterclass in depth and balance. The broth was rich and aromatic, simmered to perfection with layers of umami from tender beef, star anise, and subtle spices. The noodles were cooked just right, soaking up the broth’s essence while maintaining their satisfying chew. Fresh greens and a touch of chili oil added brightness and a gentle kick, making every spoonful a revelation.
Dan Dan Handmade Noodles: These noodles were nothing short of extraordinary. Handmade with care, they had a springy, satisfying texture that paired beautifully with the bold, nutty, and slightly spicy sauce. The dish was topped with perfectly seasoned ground meat, crunchy peanuts, and scallions, creating a symphony of flavors and textures in every bite. It was spicy, savory, and utterly addictive—a standout that showcased the kitchen’s skill and attention to detail.
Why Bao Kitchen Shines
What makes Bao Kitchen truly exceptional is not just the food, but the passion and precision behind it. Each dish felt like a love letter to Asian cuisine, thoughtfully reimagined with a nod to local ingredients and flair. The ingredients were fresh, the presentation was inviting, and the flavors were bold yet balanced. The staff’s warmth and knowledge only enhanced the experience, making us feel like welcomed guests rather than just diners.
The restaurant’s atmosphere also deserves a mention. It strikes a perfect balance between cozy and lively, with modern decor and an open kitchen that lets you catch glimpses of the culinary magic at work. Whether you’re on a romantic date or catching up with friends, Bao Kitchen’s vibe is as inviting as its menu.

It was such a welcome experience that the owners spoke English and even more amazing that they took the time to help us customize all our orders to exact what we and our kids needed and were craving that day.
Even more so they talked to us, told us about their culture, religion and beliefs (of which teachings are beautifully strewn across the restaurant walls) and many other things. Making it just a wonderful time.
On top of all of that the food was just beyond excellent, and super fresh. Even the chefs were so kind and came out to us to ensure that our meals were made to our needs for the young kids we had with us.
I cannot thank the staff and owners enough. We came back the next day to order take out as well. What great find. I urge anyone on any diet to give this a try. They will accommodate you in whatever you need, and...
