Having been a Becks regular with my friend for a number of years, it makes me uncomfortable to write this review, but it is an honest account of the Becks experience.
The last few visits that myself ands my friend have made have not been up to their usual high standard.
On one recent visit, i went to relieve myself and found maggots crawling all over the floor of the toilet, the last cubicle on the end. I advised a staff member of this and was assured that they would take care of it. I have not had the need to use the facilities since.
On further recent occasions we went back to Becks, and brought some pies and pastries to eat in. The cutlery, both knives and forks were dirty and covered in bits of dried food, that had not been washed of properly.
This was the state of the majority of utensils. We have found this on the last 3 separate visits. I have since taken to eating my pies with my hands .
Orders on multiple occasions were either wrong, missing items or delivered so late we had finished our meals whilst still waiting on the drinks we ordered. which we had to chase up with staff members.
Becks appears to have become a victim of its own success, as service, hygiene and competence of the staff has appeared to slip from its once excellent organization and service.
My friend and I still go to Becks, however far less frequently than we had in the past. I hope Becks takes this feedback into consideration and fixes these issues and once again becomes my Cafe of choice. Time will...
Read moreAtmos- ok. Traditional style bakery with ample indoor and sheltered outside seating. Do not go on a Saturday mid morning if you are looking for a quiet bite and a deep conversation - this is a loud, hectic central eatery with lots of crowds, raucous laughter, barking dogs near food and screaming kids on scooters.
Menu - average. Some interesting non standard items on menu, but lacks the simple basics we wanted that day like ham cheese tomato toasties or hot dogs. Way too many pre prepared foccacias, pastries etc to choose from and they are all jumbled together at service counters. Due to this it's hard to choose what you want in a hurry with lots of people waiting behind you. Takeaway options look very good - HUGE take away gourmet tuna/egg salad rolls etc.
Meal- good. Pre made foccacia with ham/salami cheese tomato and pesto very hot and filling. Coffee bit on the cold side.
Service- Like a factory line. No table service, buzzers only. Young staff, nice enough, but not really enthusiastic to make an effort to make something basic up for you, such as...
Read moreI came in at around about 11:30 am-ish and they were very busy. My friend ordered a sandwich with salad and I ordered a croissant with only cheese and tomato. When I got my order, it had ham in it. I have been pescetarian for years now, and this just irks me that someone would put this in my food. I feel dirty, even though it was just one mouthful of ham. When I took it back, they just said they would replace it and didn’t even apologise. When they gave me the new one the cheese was so hot it actually burnt the roof of my mouth. I realised afterwards that the reason why the croissant was so boiling hot and a lot crunchier than previously was because instead of giving me a new one, they just whipped the ham out and stuck in the heater and hoped I wouldn’t notice. I feel violated. Imagine if they did this to a Hindu or a Muslim. I do not recommend this bakery to anybody because they will lie to you you if it makes things “easier”. They said they were getting me a “new” one. Not a “contaminated croissant”....
