I got the miso ramen ($14.90) and the broth was legit - very full-bodied and umami. I thought this was the best broth among the ones my friends ordered (shoyu and shio I think) cause the flavours were more complex. Might be my preference for miso-based ramen broths. The char siu (pork belly) was really fatty and melt-in-your-mouth. Right up my alley, but I can imagine it being too fatty/sinful for some.

The matcha pancake ($20) was good in terms of balancing the bitterness of the matcha without compromising on the flavour. I would have preferred the pancake to be fluffier (in true japanese fashion), but I liked the crumb and it was moist.

A note on the service The place is popular so I had to put my number down. Waited for about 20 minutes around the area and decided to just go back to check on the wait list. I was then told, slightly rudely, that I could not be reached and was called multiple times over an hour ago and my table had been given up, which was confusing as I had only just put down my number 20 min ago (far less than an hour, so I was probably mistaken for someone else?) and was happy to wait. I think the guy was just flustered from the number of people coming in, but I would have appreciated if he were a little less aggressive about being unable to reach me (I have my doubts about that, no one has ever been unable to call my number), especially when I wasn’t angry but simply checking on my table. Not giving a low rating for pretty meh service because I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt :) I’ll be back, and I’ll update my...

This place has the best food I've ever eaten that is only possible to eat if you are absolutely starving. I always get the soy and paitan base with chilli paste , extra pork and buttered corn. I have to say that every part of it is amazing, the rich broth with the minor amount of spice adding extra flavour, the egg after you leave it to sit in the broth absorbs all the saltiness and tastes amazing, the noodles are neither too chewy or easy to bite through, the pork is fatty but the perfect amount of fat.

I always get an iced chocolate with my ramen and the sweetness contrasts with the salty bowl works amazingly along with it just being the best iced chocolate I've ever had. One time I got a flat white to drink on my way home and it was 100% the best flat white I have ever had.

The service is also great, I remember one time they forgot the corn in my ramen but they said they would give me it for free the next time I came in and I kid you not a month later I walk through the door and they immediately mentioned the corn.

thank you for reading the review of me gushing about my favourite food place. If you haven't been there before I encourage you to go, I convinced my friends to try it and now they're as...

One of the original contemporary ramen cafes in Adelaide that started when nobody else thought it was possible. The fact its still around is a reflection of the consistency in both quality and service. The menu is kept interesting with specials. When we visited, it was Chicken Nanban. We only had our sights on ramen for breakfast. Honestly given our multiculturalism in Australia; Adelaide is behind Melbourne and Sydney in terms of breakfast options. Every cafe here just does eggs on toast or birdseeds bowls. Not enough cafes doing Asian breakfasts. So far only Bai Long or BlackDog saves the day. Yumcha as a brunch in Chinatown is no longer enjoyable because so much is premade and not fresh made. So yes we definitely recommend Black Dog for all 3meals of the day and take the time to buy some green tea to steep at home or a Japanese beer or sake to go with their dinner specials....

I don't like ramen usually. Not a massive fan of starchy/overcooked/undercooked noodles that say they're handmade, paired with a light broth that is supposedly packing flavours I'm clearly missing. BUT this place was incredible!! The broth was light AND flavourful, the add on extras were generous and seasoned well. I even ate most of the noodles- did give some to the noodle loving hubby. Even the fussy kid loved the ramen (despite ordering the kids rice and miso?) The older one who eats everything said it was the best noodle shop he's ever been to - which is limited to 3 places, but nevertheless. The decor boasted some interesting art pieces, which we all had a little chat about. It's quite a small, wooden-feeling shop, so the feel of Japan is not lost. It was the most heart-filling bowl of love I've ever had. Can't wait to come back!!
