Was slightly sceptical with all the good reviews, you never know until you try it yourself... but honestly, I totally understand why people rave about this place. Yes, there are so many good Vietnamese cafes/restaurants these days, but Saigon Vietnamese Rolls is better. Bold claim, I know! Let me explain.
I got the Combo Vermicelli Bowl, so I got to try the salad/noodles, roast pork, chicken and the spring rolls. The pork was probably the best roast pork I have had in a very long time (and this is coming from a Vietnamese restaurant enthusiast!), the chicken and spring rolls were also tender and tasty, and the salad and noodles were fresh and well-balanced. I also didn't get that "yucky" feeling that usually comes after eating oily or unhealthy food, which is a big plus and sign of freshness and good quality ingredients, in my opinion. Taste, 11/10.
Price was very reasonable, especially for the area and considering how much genuine care the owners put into the food. Price 10/10.
Service was so friendly, had a smile on my face the whole time. They were busy but still made the effort to get my order correct and with wonderful energy and kindness. Didn't wait long either! The other customers in there also had their orders ready in minutes from when they ordered, was pleasantly surprised to see this. Service 10/10.
Only downside, which is not their fault or in their control at all, is the small space - not really a sit-down space unless business is slow, it seems. Space is very clean and tidy, not much visual clutter.
Good parking at both rear and front.
Overall, the hype is real for a reason! I will definitely be back. Already looking forward to my...
Read morePaid $16.50 for roast pork roll and 3 spring rolls.
Got a free spring roll because the place was packed and they had a "catering" order they were smashing through and the resulting 20mins wait. Thank you.
TLDR: tasty spring rolls, 10/10 would order again. Never got my pork roll.
At least 2 people who ordered after me, got their rolls before me.
I'm generally a patient person and don't mind waiting a minute or two longer when this sort of thing happens, but on this occasion, they realised they had run out of pork when they saw me still waiting on my roll.
Was offered a free chicken roll as an apology, which I declined. After waiting 20+ minutes already and seeing they were only midway through another large phone order, I was over it.
Was reimbursed 8.50 meaning I paid $8.00 for my 3 (+1 "free") spring rolls, which are supposed to be $7.50 (perhaps not so free).
Granted I didn't check the balance owed when it was given to me but I was pretty hangry at this stage.
Your free (?) spring roll and offer of a free chicken banh mi were much appreciated, but the timesink just wasn't worth it.
Moral of the story: your queuing system needs improvement. If you're gonna use sticky notes to write orders that's fine but perhaps take a name, or write down a distinguishing feature of the customer on your notes and do...
Read moreThis place is so good I had to make my first ever review. This is genuinely the best banh mi place in Adelaide coming from someone who has pledged banh mis down Hanson road were the best.
I was first speculative when my friend told me to try a banh mi spot in burnside but now everytime im near the area I will go out of my way to grab a pork roll. I really didn’t know there were levels to banh mi, but this made me realise there is.
The WARM thick cuts of LOADED, CRISPY pork accompanied with the most crispy fresh veggies makes every bite the most perfect unison of flavours. And yes LOADED with capitals, there’s so much meat I always find pieces in the bottom of the bag.
I seriously can’t get over how good the banh mi’s are. They are the best in Adelaide, do yourself a favour...
