Bought dinner to take home for my family, including a $23.90 hot pack that contains chicken, chips and gravy. I asked for the gravy to be separated into a container instead of poured on top, to avoid the food becoming soggy on my drive home, and was told there would be an additional $4.90 charge for that. I queried this, considering it was just a change of packaging, and I was told that the charge was to cover the additional container. I accepted this reason and paid the additonal price, although I was quite surprised at such a high price for a small plastic container. While waiting for my order, a thought struck me. What if I saved the plastic container, and brought it back next time and placed the same order? Would it be free if they can reuse my container? Upon querying this with the staff, I was told "No. I don't make the rules, I just work here. The manager is right here if you want to ask him." So I accepted the offer to chat with the manager. Upon posing my same question to the manager, he made it clear that the price was $4.90 and was not interested in providing any justification for the price are than "those are the rules". While I respect a business's right to structure their pricing model however they wish, I cannot give Chicken Chef more than two stars, as I'm left puzzled and unsatisfied with my experience at the store. Separating sauce for takeaway orders is a common practice in the industry. I would begrudgingly accept a small charge like $1.50, but $4.90 seems outrageous to me so I can't permit myself to go back again, regardless of the good food.

On the menu board there are NO choices of family fish and chip packs. When I asked, I was told I had to buy them individually. $19.50 for a bag of small crunchy chips (many stuck together in clumps) and $8.00 per small pieces of battered fish. I was appalled at the cost of $43.50 for 3 pieces of fish and a jumbo bag of chips. The food was terrible quality. The following day in a country town I noticed a much more reasonable meal deal, family fish pack of 4 large pieces of fish and a large amount of beautiful chips with large salads and a drink for $25.00. Shame on Chicken Chef for ripping of customers with unreasonable charges especially in this economic climate. NO EXCUSE. Never going back. The photo included is NOT Chicken Chef. It is from a takeaway in Barmera. 💥💥💥 Response to Chicken Chefs reply: Firstly it was a large bag of chips $19.50 of small crunchy chips NOT a small $8.00 bag. (Chicken Chef boasts the best chips). Secondly I stated that the picture was not of Chicken Chef but put on as a comparison. That shop is also open 7 days a week not 6 hours. It offers that special Fridays and Saturdays but never amounts to $43+. Thirdly no other Chicken shops or takeaways that I have ever encountered charge such an extremely high price for a bag of chips and the quality was still what seagulls would refuse. I suggest you re-read the review as all I ever put in my reviews are honest and factual.

ORDERED: Family value feast 🐔🍟 1x soft drink, 2x chickens, large chips and a large salad + large gravy I paid $13.00 for my portion! REVIEW: ❤️ Chicken chef delivered the BEST chips I've had. They're crunchy, with little craggily bits that get even crunchier. It's magical how they can make it so crispy without feeling incredibly oily. We demolished this large size between 5! 😍 ❌ Least favourite was the gravy. It firmed up quite quickly, becoming jelly-like in consistency which was a little bit unpleasant. The flavour isn't deep or particularly great either. if possible, would suggest gravy elsewhere. ✔️ The service is very thoughtful. The waitress snipped and sliced all the chickens into quarters, which made it a very easy to grab and devour back at our place. The aluminium tray it comes in gets HOT quickly, so make sure it's not sitting too long on any laps!

Pretty disappointing with all the hype surrounding them. The chips were undercooked and whilst the gravy was good, it didn't make the chips any better. The server was rude for no reason at all, she obviously picked up or was notified of her tone by other workers while I was waiting and when I came back she delivered a sardonic apology blaming Covid for "the stress". We are all under stress, I don't know a single person not experiencing stress right now but I wouldnt say it justified the behaviour, if a worker was provoked, sure go for it. But I'm not a bad customer, I pride myself on being a great customer after my time in similar industries. Covid is not an excuse for being rude and sarcastic then delivering an empty apology. Everyone is under stress, including myself. There was simply no reason for it. I'll mention the salads were great, we tried the ceaser and curried egg, the chicken was average and had just come out of the oven which was great but I wouldn't have called the chicken bad. I wouldn't have mentioned this if I felt welcomed but for a place with "our workers without masks have exemption and SA Health are aware" signs everywhere I am curious where their sign justifying those with masks wearing them under their nose or chin. They can hot and bothersome, I'm well aware like everyone else wearing them in hot and fast paced environments but after the attitude of that certain employee, the comment can be included. I'll blame covid for my lack of empathy on that one because it's obviously an okay thing to do with their example. It was nice to see a close knit team though, they seemed to work well together. The other server who checked on me was pleasant to deal with when I decided to order salads. I probably would have gone back for salads if in the area and wanting chicken, I would have given the chips another go and simply asked for a longer cooking but thanks to the service, I simply...

Been meaning to visit this shop for years. I've heard a lot of good comments that the food was good. Today I was passing so thought I'd grab a hot pack. There was about 8 people in the store so I checked out the menu..hot pack had a choice of roast spuds, chips or mash potato along with carrots, peas and gravy. I ordered a hot pack with roast potatoes and the lady said there would be a wait for the roast potatoes and I said no worries. More people arrived and others in the shop got their orders and left.I watched the staff member start preparing my hot pack. The wrong container must have been used because the peas and carrots were scrapped into another container and the chicken was added and the container then placed alongside the deep flyer. Several serves of chicken and chips were collected and my order was next in line. After waiting about 11 minutes for the roast spuds a scoop of chips was added to my orders along with a dollop of gravy and I was called.I asked if there was roast spuds or chips in the hot pack and was told chips. I explained that I had ordered spuds and was told if I wanted spuds I would have to wait until they were cooked. I explained I had been waiting as I had been told I would have to wait and I wasn't waiting any longer for the spuds to be cooked. I paid for the hot pack as it was with chips. 2 hrs20 minutes and 160km later I opened the hot pack. The chips had turned into mash potato due to the gravy on top. Roast spuds would have held their shape and made the meal enjoyable. Not overly impressed with the service or the food but my interest in the...
