Sweet Chilli Prawn Pie $9.80
Well, after seeing CJ's Bakery winning the best Seafood pie at the 2024 SA Baking awards, I finally got down there to try it out.
The presentation of the pie looked really good. The pie had a really nice colour to it, the lid had a golden glow to it. The sides and base looked fantastic. The pastry was pretty baked pretty good. If I had to be picky one side just looked a tad under overall really good. The pastry was nice and light to bite into, it wasn't dry on the palate. I really couldn't fault the pastry. (just to add the pastry wasn't that flakey)
The filling smelt amazing, you could really smell that beautiful seafood flavour. It was packed full, I don't think you could have for any more in. The consistency was excellent. The pie tasted really good, and a really nice tasting seafood flavour to it and packed with prawns. I can assure they didn't skimp on prawns. The seafood gravy was lush and creamy, almost a velvety texture on the palate. The sweet chilli complemented the pie well and wasn't overpowering, just the right amount. The flavours really worked well all together. The serving temp was good and it's safe to say the pie would have held up together nicely. This was definitely a competition style of pie. They've covered all the bases extremely well. Well worth the price.
The bakery is of a shopfront type, with recently completed works outside the store with a "parklet" and seating provided. They've also provided tables and chairs to sit down and enjoy your meal.
Congratulations on winning 1st place in the seafood category.

Read moreThis is a hidden gem. It is only a small shopfront but the bakery goods are number one. They have many awards for their creations and some of them are best in Australia. I had the meat pasty as a friend recommended, and it was beautiful. Everything looked great in the cabinet but you can only eat so much. I pride myself on being a kitchener bun expert, so I tried one of their fresh cream kitcheners and it was delightful. The dough was perfect, with just the right amount of cream and jam and served at the right temperature for maximum enjoyment. For those who are unaware, if the kitchener is served too cold the dough becomes tough and harder to bight into losing its wonderful texture. Not expensive for the quality of fare. I had to take home a couple of pasties for the family to share. A great place to enjoy good food. Highly...
