I visited her a few days ago with a colleague, and I’ve been thinking about our experience ever since. I don’t want to discourage people from trying this place because the coffee was actually really good, and I’m guessing they’re new, so they’ll have some teething problems to sort out. But here’s what our visit looked like:
We walked into a really impressive and stylish building and chose from the menu. We were served almost immediately and opted to take our order away. My co-worker ordered a 🥐 and paid for it. I then began to order my food. A few seconds later, my co-worker saw something else on the menu that she really wanted, so she asked to change her order. Her request was denied because she could only pay the difference in cash, and they would have had to go tell the chef—something along those lines.
I ordered a 🍔 wagyu beef burger 😋. We sat down to wait for our order, and our coffee was served quite quickly—it was really nice coffee too. My colleague’s 🥐 came out in reasonable time, and we waited for my burger. We were chatting, so time passed quickly, but I noticed my co-worker had almost finished her 🥐 when a waitress came over and asked if I had ordered (I can’t remember exactly what she asked, but it wasn’t about my burger).
Several minutes later, I was told they had run out of the bread that came with the burger and I needed to choose another type. I had no problem with changing the bun, but my lunch break was quickly running out, and I was worried I’d be late getting back to work. My order eventually came out, but by then the coffee and 🥐 were well and truly finished.
While waiting, we noticed that not a single staff member smiled or looked happy, which made us wonder what was going on. Unhappiness in staff usually stems from management—my guess was the chef, given the reluctance to change the order—but who knows? Something definitely felt off.
I genuinely want to see this place succeed because the burger and coffee were amazing. Maybe it was just a really off day, and I’ll be able to update this review soon. I can’t give you 5 ⭐️, but I can give five 😋😋😋😋😋. I’ll be back and watching—hopefully I can change my...
Read moreFrom humble beginnings in the burrows of Essendon, Melbourne Victoria, to the sleak minimalistic warehouse in Hindmarsh, Adelaide South Australia, Coffee in Common has come a long way in its quest for the perfect coffee.
With a renewed focus on wholesale coffee, owner Sean Do continues to cultivate the Coffee in Common brand to unlock the true depth of flavours that lie within the humble coffee bean. Coffee in Common offers flavours for every type of coffee drinker from their flagship "Heaps Good" roast, to their more exclusive "Ninety-Plus" offerings. Almost as to showcase the nature of "crop to cup" Coffee in Common roasts their coffee in-house, within full view of the paying customer. The coffee produced from Coffee in Common is full of flavours and brewed with care by the talented baristas, from the espresso all the way to a V60.
To say the food is on equal footing as the coffe does not do justice to the carefeully crafted breakfsast and lunch menus and the ever changing array of bespoke donuts on offer. The meals that come from the kitchen are plentiful and do not leave the customer wanting, Satisfaction after every meal is something that has come to be the norm for every one of my visits.
Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, if you ever get a chance ask for one of Dan's V60's (it will not dissapoint). If you ever want a good chat Dos is always up for one, he loves to discuss his extensive collection of Football shorts. Sean Do is always up for a chat with any coffee aficionado to dsicuss the goings on of the Coffee world.
Overall, a visit to Coffee in Common Bacon Street Hindmarsh is one that you will not regret. With solid coffee and food to match you will find yourself...
Read moreWe quite liked the atmosphere and also found the coffee and food very interesting. The kimchi udon? Dish was interesting in my opinion and the shrimp burger was also cooked really nicely. The food was definitely quite enjoyable!
Coffee was also interesting, I don’t think the cloud coffee was worth it’s pricing (it felt like melbourne cafe pricing?) however it was made beautifully and I could appreciate that the barista working at this place had a huge passion for his work, and I did enjoy the coffee and the latte. Cloud coffee, however, wasn’t really the flavour I was expecting (which is just my personal preference and no one’s fault!)
service wasn’t the best in our opinion, we had our plates taken sort of without being notified or the coffee when we intended to finish some that was left. It’s hard to describe but it didn’t feel like we were very much welcomed. There’s something different about staff that genuinely enjoys their interaction with the customers which I can appreciate at times. The staff weren’t rude or anything but it’s difficult to describe.
The seating arrangements are quite uncomfortable to seat for a long time, chair side was much more comfortable.
I really liked the idea of having a books/library there which is clever.
I may come back to try different menus but I’m not sure if I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here! Overall about 6/10,...
