Steak and Shiraz Pie $ 7
The presentation of this pie looked pretty good and had a nice colour to it. The lid had a golden yellow look to it ever so slightly flakey. The sides and base were perfectly baked, nice and even. Couldn't notice any shrinkage.
Cut the pie in half for a cross section for you all. The first thing I noticed was the aroma, you could definitely smell the shiraz, wow ! The pie was packed full, zero gaps. The steak was nice and tender, no grissle. The shiraz gravy tasted amazing. It was that powerful where the wine overpowered the meaty flavours, it's balanced out nicely. The meat to gravy ratio was about spot on and the consistency was pretty good. Confident to say the pie would have held up together and the serving temp was spot on. Not a bad tasting gourmet pie and priced reasonably well. I would have liked to know if wine was locally sourced ? since McLaren Vale is a large wine region in Adelaide's south.
The bakery bus located in side a small shopping centre, plenty of dining space inside the bakery for you to sit down and enjoy your meal.
Thanks for having me in Michael

Read moreThere's plenty of awards lining the walls, but I'm thinking they may print some of them themselves. The pie was good. Good meat and pastry and good flavour. The sausage roll though, looked good and pastry was fine, but the filing was like eating roast chicken stuffing. Tasted ok, but soggy. Something unlike me, I didn't finish it. Also had a date scone afterwards, with cream and jam. This is usually something I'd really love, but it was very dry, and the jam was like strawberry sauce. Didn't finish that either. Prices were up there, but that's kinda normal now. Service was good. Disappointed, but there's other bakeries out there...
Read moreUsed to visit this bakery reasonably regularly when I worked in the area, pies etc were very good then. Went in today, bought a roast chicken pie and a steak bacon cheese pie, neither had any flavour and the SBC pie was basically gravy with wisps of meat floating in it. For well over $6/pie plus a 10% surcharge for it being a public holiday,I was more than disappointed. At least the classic flavoured milk tasted good ! Won't be coming back here again,Pik A Pie down the road is 10x better even if not open...
