I had dinner tonight at the Hotel. My family and I had just been to the beach. We were lucky we found a table on the balcony. It hadn’t been cleared from the previous occupants so I went into the dining area where you order, to ask for assistance. All the staff were either taking orders or cleaning they were just busy. I noticed a young lady that was basically in the middle of the bar a few meters away from the kitchen. She was just standing there, staring at something so I waited. Nothing; so I asked excuse me are you free can you help me. She turned and stared at me. Then turned away. I was a bit surprised. So I said again excuse me are you free can you help me. Then I couldn’t believe what I heard. She said “are you talking to me” I replied rather surprised “yes I am there is no one else there.” She then said “well if you are going to talk to me like that I am not going to help you.” She then turned around and walked into the kitchen. I couldn’t believe it. It was like she felt empowered and by helping me, it be little her in some way. I said to my partner. I can’t believe what just happened. How is it possible to upset some one by asking for help twice, smiling, being polite, not raising your voice, no bad language. And have them turn around and walk away. I have multiple companies, I have employees. I know how to talk to them and I know how I expect others to talk to them. I guess its hard to get good people. We were going to leave. I am going to tell this story to any one that will listen. People seem to forget customer service is important. Having a job is not a right it’s a privilege.
