Shanghai Teahouse in Port Adelaide is criminally under-rated.
The food, service, presentation and quality is outstanding in all aspects.
Our dinner tonight was no exception.
Chicken Satay Skewers which are average size, but the taste is amazing. Steamed Pork Buns, with the sweet soft and puffy bread, and the marinated and tender pork filling in between. Pan-Fried Pork Dumpings (The Fan Favourite), which paired with their Chili Oil and Soy Sauce is amazing. On par for some of the best dumplings I've had in a Chinese Restaurant. Chicken Cashew with Onions and Capsicum, the Chicken was cooked to perfection, tender, tasty. My only personal qualm is that the sauce is quite gravy like, however my companion loved this aspect. Special Fried Rice, ..man, there's not much to say. If you want SPECIAL Fried Rice, and I mean special as in fantastic.. then you've got to try the special fried rice.
This is just one example of the weekly dine-ins that me and my partner regularly do at Shanghai Teahouse in Port Adelaide.
The Honey Chicken is incredible, always cooked to perfection, hot and sauced to just the right amount.
I believe Shanghai Teahouse in Port Adelaide does not get the credit it deserves for a Chinese Restaurant in the Western Suburbs. However, keep that in mind for your last minute dining decisions. There are always spare tables, staff are generally always catering, the service is normally always prompt and friendly, and the wait times are average for a freshly cooked meal.
The prices are on the pricier side for Chinese Food, although as the famous saying goes - you get what you pay for, and that is truthful.
I have not experienced Take-away from this establishment, however my many dining experiences can assume that they'd hold up to a solid quality in...
Read moreOrdered ,coke, appetizer of short soup, and main of special fried rice and sweet and sour pork and began my long wait in a restaurant with all the atmosphere of a party the day your dog died. Eventually the fried rice arrived, nothing with it just the rice. The sweet and sour pork arrived about 5min later allowing that nice chill to start in the rice nicely. I told the girl that I no longer wanted the soup as it was meant to be an appetizer. She told me it was nearly ready. I told her I didn't want it and I would not be paying for it. She bought soup out I sent it back. The main was served on a plate that you couldn't leave your spoon on as its shape made it fall off. The only cutlery was a European style soup spoon. Not what I would give guests to use. The food was bland and not worth the money they charged. Went to pay and had some blithering apology about it all being wrong. Gave me bill, drink didn't appear because he forgot it completely, didn't serve it, didn't think it strange that someone wouldn't order at least one drink, soup was on bill he did remove that and charged full tilt for the rest. All in all pretty lousy. Food not good, service terrible. Would never recommend this abomination of a restaurant to anyone ever. I will never return and my advice is spend your hard earned cash elsewhere. Some people think that I am a bit harsh at times when restaurants get it wrong, "why didn't you remind him about your drink?". At the end of the day it is easy. They are charging top dollar to provide you a service, and all I ask is that they do their job acceptably and don't expect me to do some of it for them. Many businesses today give terrible service and they need to be called out on it and held accountable. This is one of...
Read moreLets start with the food. Chive and prawn dumplings were delicious!! Probably the best thing ordered. Spring onion pancake needed a little more cooking and more spring onion. King prawn dumplings were nice and so was the stuffed tofu. Fried squid was nice and tender but such a small serving compared to other yum cha places. As for the service, well .. that was horrible!! Everytime we asked the waitress for something it was like a massive effort for her!! It was just 4 of us in the restaurant at the time and she still seemed annoyed. We asked for extra soy sauce and chilli oil as all she bought out was enough for 1 person and then still only bought out a little bit more. WHEN THERE IS 4 PEOPLE YOU NEED TO PROVIDE ENOUGH FOR EVERYONE. Also whilst we were still eating she went over our friend to get empty plates and asked him to pass them to her??? Um... Go around?? The restaurant is empty! Anyway, will i be back? Probably not.. service irritated me...
