My first visit to The Colonist, following a friends recommendation of where to go with another friend for a Friday night dinner. Living at Hallett Cove, I was not familiar with The Colonist and while I was initially hesitant to book a table, I am really glad that I did!
What a lovely night that had a great vibe, amazingly friendly and super interactive staff, great wall and art visuals and the food was so good. One of the staff recommended the Roasted Eggplant Salad which was AMAZING and my fiend really enjoyed her Roast Vegetable Moussaka. Being a non alcoholic drinker (and yes I still want to go out to a pub) the Melon Dollar Baby Cocktail (Mabel 0%, agave, lime, watermelon, chilli oil) was a very delightful surprise! So goodâŚ.
Great ambience and the solo player was lovely to listen to. Plus free tickets to a meat raffle bought a smile to my face (even though I am a vegetarian it was so nice to feel included). Most of all The Colonist feels really homely in a welcoming sense and I am definitely keen to go back for my next...

Iâm just your average, American girl but being at the Col made me feel how James Cook must have felt when he discovered this beautiful country. The lovely waitress took us to ârestaurantâ section, rather than the âbarâ. It was crowded but reminded me of the gastropubs my father would take me to when I visited him in England. Feeling extra nostalgic, I ordered the fish n chips, but got a side salad for health. The fish was good. I tried not too eat too many chips. The salad had spinach. Food was a bit overpriced.
Now letâs talk decor. Lots of wood, including stools, wooden seats adjourned wooden tables, to wood walls. I would describe as woody Art Deco. Only thing not wooden was the chandelier, which is has commanding presence that commands. It is dominating. Local artists...

I had garlic bread, a chicken parmi and 2 ciders. When I went to pay and was told 70 bucks, I nearly fell over. Inflation is definately a real thing in this day and age.... Now if the food was worth that much, I wouldn't have had such a big issue but the parmi I got was one of the most average parmi's I've ever had.
The garlic bread was nice... but not 70.00 at the end of a pub meal nice.
I guess I'm annoyed that I could've spent less to get a better meal if my friends didn't insist we went to the colonist. Can't fault the service of the place, they were polite and friendly. But yeah, will not be back for the food,...
