I went to have tea with an old mate of mine from boarding school and had a fantastic meal . Had an awesome Parma with chips and salad. The venue was nice and clean but the unusual item of excellence were the chips. The Parma was great but the chips on the side were the best that I'd had for a long time . I expect it was with clean oil and well prepped potatoes. They were crisp and crunchy. It sounds silly to comment on the chips but it's so hard to find a good chip these days. They had Bombay gin which is one of my favourites so at 10$ i really enjoyed that . Before hand I had a couple of pints of apple cider with my daughter before she flies back to the mines. We had a lovely time sitting out the front under the umbrellas watching life roll by. Alex is such a lovely little town and I hope you visit. As a little disclosure, a mate of mine's 2 daughters and wife work there but I'm trying to be honest and pragmatic despite this. All the very best. Rob

The room is fine for the price but left much to be desired for. For starters there is no staff avaibalbe at the reception. We had to wait for check in and check out. The breakfast promised is nothing but a hoax/false marketing. The breakfast room includes coffee and cereals and bread which ran out on the second day. The gentleman explained for a elaborate breakfast there are plenty of good cafe's around that you can explore. Please dont say that breakfast is included. The rooms lacked basic facilities like power points and window that can open to let fresh air inside. The hygiene is poor. The carpets are mouldy and room is smelly. The shared bathroom is under renovation and do think they should make alternate arrangements. The floorboard is creaky and constantly makes noise if anyone is walking in the corridor. So if price is a factor go for it. But the stay wasn't great.

Down the area for work the past 8 weeks, Everyone was talking about this place, how the food was amazing, so I decided to give it ago , the staff was friendly and was greeted very well. The place was tidy and clean. I thought I got the waiters recommended and took his advice on the mains, I got the lamb cutlets. They were chewy and dry , it was well over cooked, the sauce was overpowering ,the presentation of the food was nice but that's all it had going for it. As an entree, I got the cob loaf that was pretty disappointing. For the amount of money I paid for the meals I expected better

Booked a one night stay here while on the road doing the tourist drive. Nothing in the town was open, Pub had no-one to greet us, sent to the bottle-o to get keys, no dining, and were told we could only get fast food takeaway or TV dinners from the IGA. Quite shocked to say the least. ||||In the Food and Bev Managers defence he did try to call on the day we were due to check in - but ummmm that's kinda a bit late. We were in transit with phone's in flight mode and he never tried to call back! He sent an email which went into junk mail so upon our arrival we turned up to a fully locked and closed establishment. Only jagged it at a guess to ask the bottle-o bloke what the go was. Everyone else staying there echoed the same sentiment - like a wtf moment when we all realised we couldn't get a meal, a beer, or any service. No fridge in room to even put any drinks. Arrgghh. ||||Could use a common fridge for a microwave dinner that was in the breakfast room - but that had all the breakfast gear in it and we were lucky to fit 6 drinks in it, if you got there first. ||||Breakfast was a let down. All condiments had been used by others doing microwave dinners the night before in their rooms because nothing was open (not their fault either), cups and plates etc used, and we couldn't wash anything up to use it because the rest of the bar and kitchen area was alarmed for movement. ||||I get it that they have no staff after Covid etc, but honesty goes a long way and it would have been really nice to get a phone call when we booked the place to tell us what to expect so we could choose to cancel and stay elsewhere vs be better prepared upon arrival.||||Everyone else with us that night were on the road like us and were also venting frustration with the situation.||||I don't think it's fair to take a booking and people's money, with no information afforded at the time of booking that you're arriving to a place with no food, drinks, serve yourself breakfast (if you're lucky to get crockery) and literally the whole town completely closed on the day you arrive.||||Customers should be given the option to understand the situation, then book if it suits their needs, not the other way around. I have no problems supporting businesses getting back up from Covid, but this felt very deceitful and not right because the brochure and online advertising for this accommodation upon booking definitely did not fit reality or what we...

Recently restored and renovated over 150 year old Hotel on the main Street of Alexandra. We had lunch on Tuesday and it was slightly busy. We got served quickly by a friendly waiter in the attractively, though modern, renovated dining room. Quite a few modern Oil paintings and Artworks on the walls which add to the pleasant atmosphere. We ordered a few Entrés and mains as we were all hungry. The Smoked Trout Bruschetta was excellent as was the large serve of Chorizo in Apple Cider. The Chorizo, though tasty, really needed some bread to go with it as it's quite heavy. Unfortunately we were all disappointed in our mains. The serves were large, attractively plated and the famous chips were delicious. But both our Schnitzel Parma and American Schnitzel were not Schnitzel! Just a very large, VERY thick slab of crumbed Chicken breast. A traditional Schnitzel is a large, thinly flattened piece of crumbed meat. Quite a few pubs are doing this thick style of Shnitzel now, I'm not sure why, as the traditional, large flat piece of crumbed chicken, almost hanging off the plate is far tastier with a better meat/crumb/topping ratio. Ingredients were excellent but the amount of bacon, cheese and tomatoes toppings on my Parma were just not enough leaving the chicken too dry. Ditto the American Parma. My wife had the Vegie Burger which again was massive. She left quite a bit of it as she didn't really like it as with the sweet Brioche bun and toppings it was way too sweet, but that might...
