Ulike Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Aveley

We ordered $80 worth of food from Ulike tonight, including two honey chickens, and both were completely dry with absolutely zero honey on them. I called to raise the issue and was spoken to in an absolutely APPALLING way.

First, I explained the situation to a young girl who said nothing at all after I finished speaking. After a long silence I said “hello?” and asked to speak to the manager. She transferred me, and there was so much background noise (I assume in the kitchen) that I couldn’t hear a thing. I said “sorry, I can’t hear anything” and the manager AUDIBLY SIGHED at me, stepped outside and said “we’ll give you free ones next time.” I explained the food wasn’t just disappointing, it was expensive and not even close to what it should have been, and, I kid you not, HE HUNG UP ON ME.

I called back and spoke again to the same girl only to hear her move the phone away and say “ugh oh my God it’s the same girl again” to which I said “sorry but did you just say ‘Oh my God’ about me?” She repeated what the manager said about getting free ones next time to which I told her I used to work in a Chinese restaurant myself and therefore know what it’s like being the one to deal with complaints, but that does not give you the right to speak about customers like that. At the very least, put the phone on mute if you’re going to be rude.

She then walked into the kitchen with all the noise and left the phone with absolutely nothing more said. So we got in the car and drove 15 minutes back to the restaurant to speak in person.

When we walked in, a woman sitting inside laughed and said “Good luck, I’ve been waiting ages. WAIT did you guys call up before?” So clearly they’d been talking about us. My partner asked again to speak to the manager. He came out and said “sorry, she’s only 13 and was just stressed it’s very busy.” (There was one table of 4 and only 1 lady waiting for food). I said, “Sorry but you’re not 13, you’re the manager and YOU hung up on me.” He just gave excuse after excuse for 10 minutes, interrupting me and avoiding all responsibility.

We ended up asking for a refund and made it clear we won’t be coming back. Which is very disappointing, because my family has supported this place for over three years. I’ve even had a birthday dinner there. The food was basically inedible, the customer service was DISGRACEFUL and the way we were treated was completely and utterly...

Change of ownership? Definitely a different chef. Disappointing to say the least. Almost NO meat in the satay lamb & the same for the chicken curry. Just filled up with veg... Overpriced for what we received tonight. Even my Mum was unimpressed as well. Usually we enjoy this restaurant immensely. Tonight is an absolute let down. Not sure at this stage IF we'll be back again now. It's Disappointing that nothing in Ellenbrook is CONSISTENT! I wouldn't recommend this place based on tonight- which wasn't busy at 7pm..

I can honestly say that after living in Ellenbrook for a while my first Chinese experience up here was so bad I hadn't eaten local Chinese again since! So with much deliberation & trepidation I took the plunge again to try the local Chinese Cuisine after a total break from it for over 8 years. I decided to try Ulike Chinese Restaurant & ordered several dishes for Take Away. I can honestly say that this experience was one of the most enjoyable for several of their dishes. I considered the Take Away to be exceptional value for money based on the abundance of meat in dishes such as Satay Lamb, & the subsequent lack of 'filler vegetables' or onions in ALL the dishes... It was also so tasty & enjoyable that I could have kicked myself for waiting so long to give another outlet any chance at all! My only downside was that my personal preference for curries however is to have the sauce a bit thicker- I felt the chicken curry (although still very tasty!) to be a bit on the 'watery' side and lacked a bit of substance for that reason only. All in all a surprising result as we were SO pleased with the dishes that we ordered that we'll be back again another time in the near future. New Management - do not have administration of this Facebook page as yet (if ever, previous owner will not relinquish?). Just wanted to say Wow. Fantastic, top of the wozzer service, super friendly and helpful, not judgementle when something was out of my price range and changed my mind. Preparation was super quick and beyond my expectations but most of all it was delicious. Super fresh. Lots of protein. In the past my Chinese purchases are normally guilty of bulking up with veg and little of what you ordered, not the case last night. I do Chinese as a treat twice a year at most so I have high expectations. U-Like did not disappoint. They have been doing it tough because of the road blockages. Please reconsider if you are basing your Chinese choice on past history. Lovely people, lovely food. ...
