Cafe Sebastian — Restaurant in Ballina

Ok, so.... would have been one star on food quality alone, but the staff member taking our order and bringing our food was courteous and atmosphere was how we like it (quiet maybe 3 or 4 elderly patrons)...but now I know why. The food was very questionable.

I ordered a 'risole' beef burger. My wife ordered a bacon and egg roll.

Upon arrival (took about 20 mins) I took one bite and was immediately concerned. Bun very crunchy, salad wilted....beetroot tasteless (must have been very old)...tomato also tasteless and soggy (also most likely old)....but of most concern was the meat patty....it appeared to be cooked, but soft with the consistency of soggy weetbix...it literally fell out of shape and into a soggy paste when i took the top off the burger... no, i'm not exagerating, nor am i fussy...but geez, it wasn't even close to edible, i suspect microwaved then seered (or pre cooked)...it was, without question, the worst burger I've ever been served. I paid $18.00 for it. Wow.

Luckily, my wife likes her bacon burnt, somewhat blackened and brittle (microwaved for too long maybe??) The egg was cooked hard and again the extra crispy bun was just short of being inedible. She paid $12.00 for it. Wow.

As i paid the bill, the smell of burnt cheese hung heavy in the air, and I managed to catch a look in the kitchen. A food preparer, with no gloves or hair covering, was removing a toastie from under a griller. With her hands. Wow.

I write this not out of malice, but out of genuine concern for the elderly patrons who frequent this cafe. If this is the standard of food regularly served (as seems to be the case by looking at some of the other reviews) then I encourage you to eat elsewhere. Came here to today in hopes that it would be better than last time where my order was cold when it arrived and the chips undercooked but here I sit in this cafe where sure there are two tables with six people in the party (three adults and three kids) so a delay could be expected but I am currently still waiting for my order an hour after placing it and it is for two sandwiches and chips. I have been able to completely drink my lacking- in-coffee latte and have watched the whole place become empty from closing time before I have seen my food. This is all without mentioning the disrespect received from staff members waiting the tables who huffed after we weren't ready to order the instant they handed us menus. Never coming back again and I do not recommend anyone else...

I went to go here yesterday with my Mother in-law and two children. I have a newborn in a pram. I was told to sit with my pram not blocking the walkway, which is fair enough. As I was moving chairs to pop the pram out of the way. Two of the workers came out with food and were clearly annoyed I was in the way although there was room for them to walk around me.
