It's an absolute shame, with a dearth of high end eating establishments in Bateman's Bay, this restaurant had so much potential. Starting with the excellent location, the waterfront aspect makes for a romantic date spot. Unfortunately, the romantic undertones of this restaurant fall less towards the 'Casanova' and more towards the 'Cold Fish'.
Literally, the Cold Fish. The fish of the day, presumably whatever import was on special at Woolworths that day, was served lukewarm and overcooked. A thoroughly unenjoyable meal.
The surf and turf was SIXTY-FIVE DOLLARS. At that price, you'd expect quality. Unfortunately, when I asked for medium rare, the chef had somehow managed to serve a steak perfectly pink on the inside, but actually cooked well done. Come on guys, you could do better by buying a $20 steak from the pub across the road and pretending you cooked it yourself. Furthermore putting a dent in the chef's capabilities, was the option to have the steak served on a sizzle plate. In other words, a self overcooking steak. Who are they trying to kid?
Service was slow, taking over an hour from ordering to receive your meal on a Saturday night. The free consolation wine from the owner's guilty conscience, however, was...
Read moreI would like to give 0 star rating the service extremely poor seated and waited over an hour with only two other couple seated. One couple actually once served stayed the food is in edible and left. Once our food was eventually served I had to agreed the food was not good at all the steak was blue and I had asked for it to be medium to well done the calamari was cold and there was no lobster, there were no chips. When leaving and we questioned the owner he said he can’t get lobster (well why advertise it and let people order it then substitute with prawns) we let him know there are plenty of places to get lobster we actually live next door to a lobster catcher and he is registered to sell to the public. The owner also said he can’t get potatoes. Oh look we will never go there again it was the worst service and tge...
Read moreWe had booked the hotel above this restaurant and arrived after a long day driving. Decided to eat here as it was convenient and looked out over the water. Just one old guy serving and cooking who added a passive aggressive "SIR" to everything he said. Slow service, didn't look like he wanted to be there. We ordered the fish of the day although it didn't taste like it was caught that day. Horrendously expensive - when my husband questioned the bill he named some exorbitant price for the "John Dory", $45 per person, so nearly $100 for some unidentifiable fish in some gross sauce. When my husband asked why he didn't tell us the price of the fish, the answer was "You didn't ask .... SIR". Woeful place, woeful food, woeful owner...
