Starfish — Restaurant in Batemans Bay

Went to get away with my daughter during a very difficult time. Waitresses were so rude. My daughter never wants to go back and said “ mummy they were so rude” Having been a business owner myself they really need to train their staff to be considerate to customers. Will never go back and told all my network not to go either. Been there before with different staff but now sorry it was disgraceful. Give it a 0 rating I also wanted to add my daughter brought in 3 calamari rings in a take away bag and was prepared not to eat it in ur store, however she was still hungry and I was going to buy lunch, aswell as a milkshake and I was going to buy myself some lunch. However ur waitresses said we had to sit outside and my daughter had to finish it before coming in. It was raining and windy. Not suitable to sit outside. I wasn’t going to utelise ur place for warmth I was actually going to buy food for both myself and my daughter. One of ur waitresses said “ we can’t control the weather?” My daughter was quite hungry and would have eaten some more and I said sure I’ll buy u lunch where it is warmer. So yes we had 3 calamari rings in a take away bag. Ur staff were very rude about it. And my daughter was happy to not eat those calamari rings in ur store. My daughter felt awful and she is a kid. How u can make a kid feel that way? is awful service. I spent $7 on calamari rings at the boat shed but I was prepared to spend over $70 for lunch all up. Very awful. So what if I brought in 3 calamari, she was happy to not eat them in ur store. I feel a manager should have handled...

We ate here the very day this opened. Have eaten here maybe around 80x since. Recently we called in for dinner, and what WAS a favourite restaurant has become a place to avoid. I'm told there are new owners, I can't verify that. However, I've eaten some pretty bad meals in my life but the one we were served here was so bad I was shocked. The menu "reads well". The food in no way is representative of what you read. GNOCCI...I've NO idea what it was made from but as someone who makes their own Gnocci and has eaten Gnocci at some fine eateries this "stuff" was absolutely awful. It wasn't made from potato and I care little for what the owners may say, it wasn't potato. It came in weird square shapes! Tasteless, bland. The Sage burnt to a crisp. The "Seafood Salad" promised "salt n pepper fish" but as a fisherman of over 50yr I can tell you there wasn't ONE piece of "fish" there! The "Squid" was about 8mm square and 10cm long... a commercially produced rubbish. It was ALL coated in some awful generic commercial coating (certainly not salt and pepper) and it must have had copious quantities of msg as I got a migraine within 15min of eating some!! The "prawns" aren't local, nor Australian. More like those "poo pen prawns"...you know, Vannamei... cheap and God knows how much chemicals in them. THE worst meal I've been served (didn't finish) in over a decade. The once proud eatery has crippled itself with fake nasty ingredients and a focus on profit...

We always eat here when in town... food is good but not great, staff are great, ambience is great too Tonite we actually had the special... 2 pizzas (or pastas or salads) plus 1 bottle wine for $55 Seemed like good value until bill came Kalju had ordered the prawn pizza which was $26 on standard menu I ordered the neapolitana which was $18 on the menu but I added salami When the bill came they chsrged me $2 for the salami even though it wasn't near the vost of the prawn pizza I wuestioned their logic and the waitress had to get the supervisor.... she explained it was their ordering system that automatically did this but how does thst make it right? She eventually took the $2 off but I am not convinced she understood & condoned my stance Bad, bad customer relations You h as ve turned a loyal customer who sings yr pr a ises into one who may not come back Was thst really worth the $2 you could gain?

Interesting response from the owner Let it be known that at no time did I ever abuse the wait staff. I asked them questions and didn't accept their responses as I felt that noone was listening to me. The $2 was incidental... it was the principle I was concerned about. I did raise my voice when I felt unacknowledged but not once did I abuse anyone that evening and I resent you reporting it as such because it simply was not true. You have a nice place and good staff... why spoil it by lying...
