Located in canning college canteen where exit A is, chomp chomp has been a lovely surprise that brought back fond memories of Singapore when I was eating in a school canteen. Whilst it is not a restaurant setting, I really appreciated the hall setting as I sat with my partner eating really good food and just chatting. Going there in the day and in the evening felt so much different. In the day, it felt like Cambridge forum food court and in the evening felt like I was in a school camp retreat-like atmosphere. We had Singapore laksa, pork belly laksa, mee goreng, lamb Briyani and mince pork noodles. I couldn’t fault anything. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. The boss guy would walk around talking to customers, it was friendly but not imposing. He proactively added laksa sauce for me without me even asking. Such service is really rare nowadays. I finally found an amazing Singapore style mamak mee goreng in Perth but it’s the chef last day. That was really unfortunate for me. Lamb Briyani has the meat falling off the bone and it was so tender. Lastly the laksa was divine and the roast pork belly was cooked very well. I hope they will be here for long time. Well done and keep up...
Read moreAmazing authentic food! Heard about this place and am so glad we gave it a go! Ordered Kaya toast with soft boiled egg and coffee ($10.90), singapore hokkien noodles ($16) and nasi lemak ($8) with lamb ribs ($4.50). Big portion sizes for everything and so delicious. We just came back from our holiday in Malaysia and this taste just as good if not better :)
Took abit of time to get used to the ordering system but no biggie. There’s 3 food stalls, 2 outside 1 inside. There’s a big menu on the whiteboard in the hall but not sure which food was outside stalls or inside. Stalls on the outside, pay outside at Omnomnom food truck. Inside stall pay inside.
All the stall owners were so friendly and lovely. A bit sad that it was just us there on a Sunday but it was just 11am, not lunch time yet. Would love for more people to try their amazing food :) hope to go back soon!
Ps: there’s free parking right next to the food hall. There’s a private parking sign on entry from Marquis Street but only on weekdays so drive...
Read moreThe food is to-die-for home-cooking. I had the mee siam $8 with ayam masak merah $4.50. I'm still drooling thinking about it.
My son had the nasi lemak $8 with chicken pieces $4.50. He found it spicy but loved it. He had a durian icy pole to cool his palate.
I didnt realise I could have ordered CKT as we were late. Next time!!
The concept is great - train and feed the students - and I would encourage them to open to the public everyday unless non-students eat too much.
Next weekend they have live music for dinner.
Definitely a bookmarked eatery for us. Not easy to get a tick from my son!! I dont mind the atmosphere at all but some may so rated it 4. We go where the good food is, and for someone who reacts to MSG badly, so far no reaction.
Thank you, Daryl...
