Baan Phra Ya Thai Brighton — Restaurant in Brisbane City

This place used to be the "go to" in Brighton. We've had many slight mishaps over the 5 years we've been going there, but usually the staff fall over themselves to help fix anything with a smile and genuine apology. Getting in for a table used to be difficult and wait times for takeaway were always long - but for good reason. How VERY disappointing that this Brighton icon has gone so downhill. We were the ONLY table in the restaurant and had to wait 15 mins to order - after hubby asking the waitress could we order, then 1 meal came out and we waited........ kind of need your rice when you order a meal to eat with rice. Slowly, one by one, meals appeared on the cupboard but the wait staff were so entrenched in their conversation that they didn't notice or seem to care too much. We continually had to jump up and grab food ourselves. The food was okay - although the Pad See iew with prawns which is usually very flavoursome was barely edible. The prawns had no flavour - they literally tasted like they were thrown in as an after thought straight from the fridge and the meal was sooooo salty!. We decided to pack up and go home - extra $1.50 for take away containers. (that's a first - but okay!). Given the totally second/actually probably third-rate service - I'm not surprised noone was dining in. That plus the difference in price to the take away menu displayed at the front and the dine in price was nearly $20 difference!!! Really miss the young guy that used to work there - he had exceptional customer service. The young lady there now could really do with some training - her service is disgusting - her attitude even worse. Won't be going back...

Last night we booked a table at this restaurant that was our first mistake. We were greeted by a lovely lady and served by a lovely young man. We ordered the fish cakes for starters and for main the beef basil and chilli and beef curry. the fish cakes arrived on time however very chewy tasted like a packet mix not a nice texture at all. Other tables started to fill up with people and ewe thought that's a good sign. waiting for our main we noticed that others were being served their mains who came in after us. I tried to make eye contact with the waitress but she was not interested. finally after waiting nearly 40 minutes I approached the counter and asked what had happened. the staff apologised and amazingly our beef curry was delivered to our table. Unfortunately they for got to heat it it was as cold straight from the fridge. I went up to the counter kitchen staff not making eye contact said this is cold we can't eat it. the lady in the kitchen then produced the basil dish 45 minutes after we ordered it. needless to say we paid for the chewy fish cakes and left. Never to return. so very...

lovely food. horrible customer service. my boyfriend and i decided to go to our favourite thai for my birthday and was unpleasantly surprised with an hour and a half wait for our meal! not only to mention that we didn't get to finish our dinner in the restaurant as it was closed by the time our last dish was served. we were the last two customers in the store with the workers cleaning up around us. initially it was a long wait to get just our entrees out, and then a further 40 mins for one of our mains to come out without any rice to eat it with. by the time our last main came out our curry was cold and it was 10 minutes past the closing time and we had to get it in takeaway as it was too uncomfortable to finish our dinner in a closed restaurant. no discount and little apologies! my boyfriends dad went in to sort it out for us today and they offered a $2 discount! bloody ridiculous...
