My partner and I made an unexpected but truly charming stop at the Celtic Corner recently, proving that you don't need a pint to enjoy a great pub atmosphere. We slipped in for a quick round of non-alcoholic drinks before dinner and the whole experience was, simply put, lovely. The timing was key. We caught that sweet spot in the mid-afternoon—the quiet calm just before the evening crowd descends. It felt like we had the cozy, fun little space all to ourselves. The atmosphere was incredibly relaxed and welcoming, a great place to pause and recharge. Crucially, the service was just as lovely; friendly and attentive without being overwhelming. While the bar is clearly set up for a good night out, we were thoroughly impressed by the non-alcoholic offerings. My partner enjoyed a well-served non-alcoholic beer, and for a true mid-afternoon pick-me-up, my cup of coffee was superb—hot, fresh, and exactly the boost I was looking for. It's refreshing to find a pub that clearly takes pride in all its beverages, treating an NA beer and a coffee with the same care as a traditional draft. If you're looking for a warm, quality pit stop—whether to kick off the night or just delineate the end of your afternoon—the Celtic Corner is absolutely...
Read moreWent in at about 7:30pm and enquired about takeaway and the guy behind the bar said he could manage that. Ordered duck spring rolls and the volcanic fries for takeaway and a pot of Guinness while we waited. After paying I stood at the bar waiting for the drink while the guy walked off and started unloading the dishwasher before turning around and asking me if I was right. I replied that I was waiting for the Guinness and he said 'oh yeah' and then continued to unpack the dishes. Eventually got the beer and sat down to wait. The wait wasn't too long but the food was terrible - no sauce with the overcooked spring rolls and the volcanic fries (which were described as fries with mince and cheese) were stale fries with some half melted cheese scarcely scattered on top, 3 teaspoons of clumpy mince in the corner and a heap of jalapenos which weren't mentioned. Ended up throwing most of it in the bin - a major waste of money and time, especially disappointing as it smelt and looked so good when we walked past...
Read moreCame here via words of mouth, didnt disappoint. Very nice atmosphere on a Saturday night. The street is lively, but not too busy. Hubby had the Guinness Pie, and I had Grilled Barra.
The Guinness Pie has the pastry on top of a ceramic bowl. The meat was tender and tasty, perhaps they can add an Irish Stew to the Menu as I am gluten-intolerant. It came with mash and peas which seems a bit bland. Some people might find it a bit too small. My Barra is huge! I only wish it's skin-on. The Salad that comes with it is a bit average.
The service is pretty laid-back; they dont hassle you, you just get them to take your order, and they dont hard-sell or anything.
Guinness on tap is the best!
Somehow they dindt have the Band on the night we...
