Update: I turned up here tonight at 11:15pm, fully expecting to be turned away. Not so. The chef cheerfully offered to cook me whatever I wanted despite the late hour. That is service above and beyond the call of duty, proving that the negative comments here are just sour grapes and complete nonsense. Admittedly, I am rapidly becoming a recognised regular here, but of course, the reason for that is the quality of the food and service and the friendly welcoming ambience.
I have probably been to this place about four times now, three for takeaway and one for dine in. It annoys me greatly that there are seriously negative reviews for the place. I have found the place to be quite wonderful. The food, while not haute cuisine, is very good, stick to your ribs, italian provincial cooking. Everything is freshly made from scratch, and this shines through. It reminds me of meals I have eaten in the small osterias of Trastevere in Rome and Florence, though some of the dishes may have been altered a little to suit Australian tastes. Service is very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere and ambience are informal and very family friendly. The dining area is a large alfresco area equipped with overhead fans and shielded from any possibility of rain while remaining open to the air on all sides. It is decorated with natural greenery and fairy lights, and gas heaters are available to ward off any winter time chill. My personal favourite dish is the veal scalopine marsala, which is prepared so the veal is tender and moist and not overcooked with a creamy mushroom and marsala sauce that is subtle and allows the taste the veal to be the star of the dish, not like the cloying oversweet sauces that I have encountered elsewhere. I have no hesitation in recommending this place to others. I think the negative reviews are simply spiteful responses to small perceived slights that have little basis in reality. If you look at my other reviews, you will find that I am not one who offers praise easily or inappropriately and I am not in the least afraid to call out businesses that are not offering value and good service. I will certainly be returning here regularly. Some may be concerned that I may be a friend of the owner, but I can assure you that that is not the case, but I do have every intention of...

As a small business owner, I usually go out of my way to only leave positive reviews. But last night I had such a horrible experience that I can’t stay quiet.
My sister and her son were out for a quiet dinner and invited me to join them last minute. I let them know I’d arrive around 6pm, after wrapping up a work meeting. When I arrived, the restaurant was almost empty. The waitress saw me come in, acknowledged me, then stood chatting at the next table for about 10 minutes. It was the only other table at the time.
Our menus were closed and we were clearly ready to order. She avoided us and instead sat what looked like regulars had a long chat again , took their drink orders, served their drinks, then took their food orders. Then another table was seated and she started the same process with them. We were still waiting.
Eventually I had to speak up. I said, “Excuse me, we’ve been waiting longer than these tables.” She came over visibly upset and said, “I’ve waited ONE HOUR for you.” Which is simply not true. My sister had already ordered an entrée and I had only been there 15 minutes.
I responded, “we’d just like to order.” She said, “Did you come here for dinner or to attack me?” and kept repeating “Shame on you” before asking us to leave. In front of a six-year-old.
I was stunned. I had a tired tone, sure, but I wasn’t rude or aggressive. Her reaction was so over the top that I began recording, because I didn’t want to be misrepresented. She continued saying things like “Go on, take it to the police i beg you.”
I didn’t want to write this. Maybe she was having a bad day. But the reality is you kicked out a six-year-old on a cold night, before he even got to eat. I have a broken scapula and struggle to cook. My sister really needed someone to talk to. Instead, we were told to leave with no explanation that made any sense.
It was unprofessional, unkind, and completely...
