Went along on Saturday evening with a friend who considers this his favourite Chinese restaurant. He dines here frequently. This is a large restaurant in the typical Chinese style with plastic tablecloths and a very extensive menu. Certainly the menu features great sections of duck and seafood! All l the usual dishes one would expect were there.. and some great things Peking duck, soft-shell chili crab, etc. The staff were quite efficient and polite. The food was certainly fresh and tasty. We had salt and pepper quail which was quite small but hot and crisp. Our prawns were very freshand plump-the texture fantastic! Also a beef dish which was really stunning in its delicious Peking sauce. This restaurant has a liquor licence and there were the usual drinks on offer. The wine selections were more appropriate than usual to a Chinese restaurant featuring wines that complemented the food. This isn't often the case in Asian restaurants. The waiter was attentive and asked us about the timing of our dishes from the kitchen. He checked which ones we wanted first and which ones served together and if we were ready for our next course etc. A nice touch when you are ordering banquet style. All up, great food, good service and the presentation and attention to detail of the dishes was very good compared to similar venues

I've been a customer since they open in Portside Hamilton and I feel bad having to write this review... but hey there you have it: Food quality in general went down lately. Some dishes, like the Shenzuan Beef in the pic(yummy), are still top notch, while other are just inedible nowadays (I'm talking to you honey glazed pork). Another things I noticed is the low quality of the takeaway food, most dishes are literally drown in sauce. Service has always been the Achilles heel of this establishment (and I'm trying to be nice here, service is beyond terrible). Beside the communication barrier I truly believe that most of the waiting staff is not in the right business. Most waiters do not understand English, not even numbers, let alone explaining the various dishes to customers. Lack of friendliness and customer care is a constant despite the very fast staff turnover (I've rarely seen the same waiters for two months in a row). The results is a poor service every time: missing or wrong orders, late service and no customer focus whatsoever. The last straw: today they applied a 15% surcharge on my final bill despite being a Saturday evening and not a public holiday. Sorry, but too many things really have to improve if they want to see me again.

Fortitude Valley: I think the food is varied depending on what you order. They do stir-frys quite well eg. Beef with vegetable but then the Seafood Chow Mein is poor. In comparison with other places in the Valley, it's quiet good. Went back another time to try something else but the lady who served us was very rude and kept saying the kitchen was closing and gave us zero time to order (which is fine but maybe you should have told us when we walked in) so we made some rash decisions. 20 minutes later a man told us in a polite way that the kitchen was about to close. This meant we could have had the time to make a proper decision! Tried the Vegetable and Tofu soup which was ridiculously expensive for very little. I was imagining something nourishing like they have at New Shanghai with heaps of wild vegetables and nicely cubed Tofu in a chicken broth. This was water, chestnut powder and a few sprinkles of random vegetables -_-. The squid was just average.

Had the most disgusting meal there today. Made the mistake of not sticking with 'the usual' yum cha dishes. The deep fried pork ribs were super greasy due to the fact that they were cooked in oil that was far too hot, as was evidenced by their dark mahogany hue. Some pieces were actually dripping oil. As to the noodles with ginger and shallots - well, where do I start? Firstly, they came swimming in a watery soup which was a mixture of soy sauce & the water the noodles were cooked / warmed in (no draining happening here). They were certainly not 'gon lo' (dry mixed). It was obvious that the cook (I refuse to call this person a chef - even calling him/her a cook is elevating him/her) had not bothered to drain the noodles, tossed them in sauce, dumped them on the plate, forgotten the ginger and I had to look very hard for the shallots!! Honestly they might as well have put it in a bowl and served it as a wet dish!! Admittedly when I complained (something I've done only twice in the decades I've been eating out) they did try and rectify it but no one in the kitchen was listening unfortunately. When I didn't eat it and was told I'd still have to pay for it, I packed it up so I could photograph it to show the owner. Had it been a 'hole in the wall' dining establishment, I would not be writing this. But guys, your prices aren't exactly cheap and you obviously aspire to being a bit above the average Chinese restaurant, so either lift your game or lower your prices, respect your audience, most of whom I would say have discerning palates. I was a regular but I don't know if I will be hurrying back...

Pop down to the Enjoy Inn at Port Side Hamilton for a takeaway Monday evening. We weren't overly hungry so we simply shared steam dim sims, sweet corn and crab meat soup and chicken chow mein. The steam dim sims were a little bland and rather tough/chewey, possibly over steamed, however the sweet corn and crab meat soup was delish. Unfortunately the chicken chow mein was far from what I had expected. I have enjoyed this dish from various Chinese Restaurant and take-a-ways over many years and normally I have found it to be served with an abundance of vegetables, chicken and broth, with the noodles, generally crunchy, on the side or for takeaway in a separate bag. The Enjoy Inn version consists of a lot of long thin noodles very few vegetables and some chicken, not at all your regular chow mein. I found it reasonably tasty however I was very disappointed with the dish. I have since read a number of reviews on this restaurant, a lot of them good, but regrettably quite a few not so good, most relating to very poor service and lack of customer respect. I found the staff quite good, however I only rang and order a take away and collected it, all done without any hassle. It was around 6 o'clock however, prior to the restaurant being busy. My suggestion would be, when ordering, either dine in or take-a-way, to ask the ingredients of your choice of dishes so your not disappointed when you receive your meals from this restaurant. Bon...
