I ate at FoshTails (attached to Fosh Bar & Restaurant), but the QR code I scanned directed me to upload my review here. I love my fish and chips and the food I’ve had here is some of the best that I’ve ever had. I was initially tempted to try the food thanks to a 2-For-1 Cod ($12) that was offered. I was greeted very warmly by Bridget, who guided me through the four preparation methods on hand for the cod. I started off with beer battered cod and coconut cod. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of both pieces, and they were both delicious. I’ve never tried a coconut crumbing on fish before and was quite impressed. Hungry for more, I decided to order the daily special, which was the Southern Fried Style Chicken Burger ($18), served with chips. I also decided it was of the utmost importance that I also try the grilled and crumbed versions of the cod, so I treated myself to another 2-For-1 deal. Blimey, that grilled cod was something divine. It was buttered up beautifully and it was quickly devoured. I then had the burger, which was also scrumptious. They used sweet and sour sauce, gherkins, lettuce and red onion. Fresh-tasting ingredients and chicken that was cooked really well, I also quickly obliterated the existence of this delectable offering. While finishing my burger, I realised I was quite full. Worry not, Bridget came in to save the day. She checked in on whether I was enjoying my meal, just as I was polishing the last of my burger. I asked if I could please have my crumbed cod and the chips that came with the burger placed in a takeaway box. Bridget one-upped me by accepting my request and offering to place it in a bag. Sustainable packaging both the take-away container and the bag, for those of you environmentally-minded, such as myself. This review would not be complete without telling you what the crumbed cod and chips taste like. One moment, I’m going to put my phone down. OK, pwoahhh. I had approximately 1/4 of the crumbed cod and it was also great. Nevertheless, the grilled cod reigns supreme for me, it’s a must-try if you eat here. Chips are also solid, but my review won’t do them justice because they’re warm now. To be fair, I did try some while they were hot and they were great, but since I’ve only had a few overall from the generous portion given to me, I cannot give you a conclusive review. We’re almost at the end, folks. I hope you’ve enjoyed the ride. Highly recommend this place, with food so good, it galvanised me to write up this culinary journey. If Bridget’s hospitality and big smile is anything to go by, you’ll be properly taken care of here. To the Fosh team, nice work with the 2-For-1 Cod meal. You reeled me in real good… until next time! I’m based in Melbourne and will be heading home tonight, but I’ll make the effort to come back one day. Please have another good deal in store for me and DON’T GET RID OF THE GRILLED COD WITH THE BUTTER ARTFULLY SPREAD ON TOP IT WAS SO GOOD. Sampai jumpa lagi (until we meet again). Thanks to everyone who prepared my food, your culinary expertise will ensure I’m well-fed and content on my flight later tonight. Had a quick chat with Neb too, another great vibe. I’ve edited this review three...
Read moreHubby booked a table at Fosh about a month after it opened for a cheeky mid-week celebratory wedding anniversary date. We arrived for a late lunch time-slot when the venue was not overly crowded, allowing us to enjoy the fresh vibes and sunlit views to the Brisbane river. The decor is open and airy with high ceilings and plenty of natural light creating a very elegant yet relaxed atmosphere. Subtle cream and soft white furnishings with a touch of green foliage give a calming, almost soothing feeling. So easy to settle in for a long lazy lunch together. We sat inside, but you can also sit Riverfront or to the side outdoor area at Fosh Tails fish 'n' chippery with picnic tables, fake grass and seaside vibes that looks a perfect place for a more casual fish and chips with the kids or Sunday cocktail catch up with friends. No bookings required outdoors.
For starters we chose fresh raw seafood selections of freshly shucked oysters drizzled with verjuice, yuzu and pickled rhubarb. The tangy pickled rhubarb was so refreshing on the palate and my pick of the trio. We continued the selection of raw seafood from the menu. Scallop capers & preserved lemon, cured ocean trout with labneh, dill & pickled cucumber, tuna with a slightly spicy ezme & caper berries and my pick of kingfish dressed with orange vinaigrette & sea purslane. A waiter walked passed with a fish finger sandwich and I just had to have one! Two slices of the fluffiest white door stopper bread, crusts trimmed off wedged with a the crispiest deep fried firm white fish fillet dressed in creamy mayonnaise and chives. If you only have time for a quick lunch visit, I highly recommend the fish finger sandwich with a crisp cold beer or freshest Prosecco! Hubby chose the baked king prawns, succulent and well seasoned. For mains we chose the whole sole with lemon butter and capers, the crispest little farm leaf salad mix of endive, cos red onion, parmesan and sherry vinaigrette and some retro potato scollops, a childhood favourite! The potato scollops came with a curry sauce - my preference would have been a rich, thick tangy tomato sauce to go along with the childhood memories. Fosh has an extensive seafood menu selection including caviar, seafood platters, prawns, squid, octopus, Moreton Bay bugs, mussels, market fish, live rock lobster, QLD mud crab and aged dried fish on display. Fear not if you cannot eat seafood, there are lamb, beef, chicken options and some vegetarian options too. We wined and dined slowly all afternoon into the early evening finishing our date with a lemon curd tart from the dessert menu. Staff were professional, attentive, friendly and smartly attired and helpful with wine and menu selections. We will definitely be back to share the Fosh dining experience...
Read moreMy wife, infant and I had a lovely date night dining at Fosh. We ordered one of their banquets, paired with a bottle of wine.
Firstly, the service here is impeccable, from the front counter to the table and throughout our dining experience was fantastic. The staff were accommodating, exceptionally friendly and attentive, given we had a baby stroller with us. Luckily, our little one slept for most of the time! phew. But when she was awake, so many of the staff were waving at her with smiling faces as they passed by.
The banquet was very good, with a range of seafood servings delighting the taste buds; oysters, scallops, and salmon were all super fresh, the garlic brioche was served warm with a slight crispy outside and a fluffy layered bread inside, delicious.
While all the initial dishes were fantastic the mains fell short. The BBQ market fish, was slightly tough, being overcooked by probably less than a minute. The accompanied sauce was its saving grace, however, of all dishes, the only land dish served; twice cooked chicken, was the big let down, it was crispy and crunchy on the outside as it should be, but very dry on the inside. We only ate a couple of pieces and gave up on it. Note, we were very full at this point.
Given the level of all other dishes, I was surprised how overcooked the chicken was.
We were unable to attempt the chef’s dessert, which was a lemon meringue tart, BUT! It was excellent the next morning with coffee.
Just as I’ve finished this review, I’ve realised I’d neglected the fact that we regularly dine at the casual dining part of the restaurant for fish and chips! Having gone there 4 times already, it’s now our regular haha. Excellent fish & chips and a very welcomed addition to Portside.
Overall, I’ll give Fosh a solid 8.5/10, with the only upset being mentioned above. We’ll definitely dine there again! And of course continue going for...
