Guzman y Gomez - University of Queensland Refectory — Restaurant in Brisbane City

The experience I just had at this reputable establishment can only be described as fundamentally sublime in nature. Service was provided with a level of machinic efficiency only attainable by a team of devoted and industrious staff who hold in their hearts a profound love for customer service.

We go to Phizz to escape the drudgery and spectacle of our monotonous studies and troubled lives, expecting little but praying that something truly ascendant may arise from somewhere beyond; that with some luck and discerning choice in meal, we will interface with the divine with each bite. This happened to me today at the UQ Guzman y Gomez Phizz food court restaurant.

As I approached the counter to order, I was listening to George Michael's 1987 number one hit 'One More Try', a moving ballad encouraging listeners to always give just one more try. For me, this was the cali burrito I ordered. Satisfying of course, but at times unremarkable. Today, however, my burrito was anything but. The contrast between the hot juicy chicken tenders and cold guacamole was unspeakably sensual. The warm embrace of the burrito spoke to me.

Waited 17 minutes and then heard many other orders after me getting called so asked what happened to my order. Got told to stand aside while they took new customers orders even though I waited in line again. After the girl served another three customers i again lined up and again asked and she put me aside again. Then a few minutes later she finally asks again what the issue was. Made me feel like I had done something wrong.

I showed her my receipt and again she said wait and then asked around. Another few minutes went by and no communication from her and she just went back serving new customers. By this stage I was getting pretty livid. Finally another girl called out my number as they found my order and she came out with it obviously had been sitting for quite some time. Meal was cold and chips were at room temperature by this stage.

My first time at this store and as I have just started at this Uni it definitely was not a good experience. The food was cold and service was appalling. Don’t thing I’ll be back with the staff’s attitude and definitely should have read the reviews on this place. No good reviews for the last year definitely says something.

I don’t like leaving reviews but I really have to this time. I placed my order online and the app said ready at 12:15pm, I knew it wouldn’t be ready at that time because it’s peak lunch time especially with the subway closed at the moment, but after waiting 40mins I had to ask about my order because all the numbers around me were called but not mine. The man asked my number and what I got and I replied with spicy beef nachos but before I could tell him the extras I ordered and paid for he went to the back. I assumed that he was going to print out the receipt to see exactly what I ordered but he came back and handed me my food, just plain beef nachos. Props to the man for making my food but I paid for lettuce and extra black beans along with coriander (free, but still). I understand that it was busy but losing orders and not reprinting receipts to check the details isn’t great. I was going to go back and say something, but I order online to avoid talking to people because of my social anxiety, and I was shaking enough as it was when inquiring about my meal. Will I order from you guys again? Yeah but definitely not...
