Not sure why this place get's a 4.7. I am a level 6 local guide on Google Reviews.
There are 3 easy ways to ruin coffee:
Burnt milk Burn beans (yes that includes dark roast, there is no such thing for people who truly like coffee) Not cleaning your coffee machine regularly enough.
I ordered a half strength cappuccino on regular milk. It's not hard to get wrong. Not sure which of the three is going wrong? Maybe it's the roast.... The coffee was the right temperature... Maybe it's because you don't clean your machines. every day? Something to work on. I don't like giving whole hearted negative reviews, but will if necessary.
Coffee has been my life blood for the last 6 years and I've tasted just about every good coffee that was including the Black Sheep when it was still around, and god I miss that place. Your coffee tasted burnt/dirty. Maybe people in Mitchelton just prefer a darker roast. There's no such thing in my opinion.
On the other hand, really good crumpets, and good service, that was friendly and efficient, but that's about where it ends.
If you want to taste good coffee by comparison, go to Super Numeracy, Hedge, or Death Before Decaf instead. Super Numeracy uses padre beans, and doesn't really ever get a shot wrong. Death before Decaf even uses their own in house blend.
Nothing wrong with blended coffee either if you want the same taste on the regular, single origin is also great, but is much more prone to seasonal variables.
I think this place is trying too hard to imitate a Melbourne coffee bar. Good atmosphere, good supporting local artists, but then failing at the basic fundamental for your business which is coffee. I don't get it.
And I'd even forgo fancy coffee art just to go to Hedge Espresso in Salisbury.
All I'm asking for is for someone on the north side to do better. I've had better coffee within 5 minutes drive at Cafe 63.
I'm going to give a 2 because the fundamentals are there, if you would hire baristas that know how to pull a shot.
Supporting a local roaster like Bear Bones is...

I had the hobby eggs Benny ( green apple jalapeno jam, herbed hollandaise, sour dough, gotzinger bacon)
This was an extremely well balanced dish. The sauce was excellently seasoned & the jam was an amazing accompaniment, adding additional depth to an already well stimulated pallet. To top this off it was served with very thick cut soft sour dough - providing the right platform to soak up the sauce and egg. This showed real understanding of what restaurant quality food should be. I tend not to fully eat eggs Benny - usually leaving the plate with noticable scraps. This was a pleasant exception.
I'm very disappointed that I live so far away and can't come...
Read moreGreat food, but the atmosphere needs work!!
I really enjoyed the corn fritters and the iced latte—both were delicious and well-prepared. However, the ambience left a lot to be desired. The staff seemed stressed and were frequently noisy, dropping utensils and even brooms, which disrupted the otherwise pleasant experience. It made the space feel more chaotic than calm.
I understand that hospitality work can be demanding and the team may be understaffed or fatigued, but as a customer, part of dining out is the opportunity to relax in a welcoming environment. It’s hard to unwind when the setting feels rushed and loud. A bit more attention to the atmosphere would go a long way in elevating the...
