It’s about time I reviewed my favourite cafe in Brisbane. The lovely couple who recently moved and took ownership of this cafe have done nothing but excel, grow, and thrive with the community that surrounds them.

My first coffee here was by chance only, with little to no knowledge of this cafe even existing! Now, after 18months of living here, my metadata from google and my bank account can attest to the fact this is my most frequented coffee and food in Brisbane.

For those who froth on alternative milks like myself, their resident baristas know exactly what they’re doing with them and understand the intricacies involved with alternative milks. If I was to make a recommendation it’s be their oat milk! But almond and soy have never let me down either.

For those who roast on the beans used by cafe, this is the coffee for you. I believe it’s Bellissimo beans, but I can be wrong, and they do an excellent job at roasting and serving this bean in any form of coffee you order.

And most importantly, for those hungry for a bite to eat, Ion Cafe offers your traditional and classic Aussie cravings like Breakky Burgers, Breakky Wraps, Eggs Bennies and Big Breakkys! But don’t worry, if you’re like myself and eat plant based or have a partner whom is coeliac, then the make your own menu caters for all - even your four legged pals who get to sit and eat with you in the front!

Honestly, the family here have made me one of their own and I highly recommend making this your daily coffee run and your weekly Sunday binge. Ion Cafe is not only beautiful in its cottage vines and vines, but are beautiful in their people and service they provide.

I’ll...

I wouldn’t have even given one star but people need to know about this.

On this one particular instance we made our order of the same meal x2 We then wanted to change one item to another which was a 50 cent difference which the business really wanted and were determined to get it, the person in our party thought that was ridiculous due to the amount and eftpos charges that would take and stated that to the person re-taking the order.

After this one of the assumed owners of the business made sure she was in hearing distance so that we could hear her trash talking about the person in our party which happened to be my mother, the woman who runs the business said she wanted us to hear it as she did not like my mothers “tone” so that is why it was apparently acceptable to talk about AND talk directly to a customer like they are something that has been wiped from their shoe. I asked for a refund before the conflict started due to still being able to hear this woman speaking badly about my mother loud and clear to her staff. The refund was refused.

Absolutely revolting behaviour not just out of a woman but a business owner operator.

You can jam your costs and your...

My dining experience from beginning to end was not great. I felt a sense of unease from the staff, like they were just so busy they couldn't give us proper attention. The food was definitely overpriced, $14.50 for two waffles with a few strawberries and a little bit of cream was outrageous. The waffles looked like and tasted like they were bought from the supermarket and were not actually made on the premises, this was not what we expected to receive or pay for. $8.00 for a bowl of wedges is definitely overpriced and $9.00 for a smoothie seemed ridiculous, $5.50 for two fried eggs is definitely exorbitant, considering you can buy a dozen eggs for that price. The bacon on our meals did not taste good and was not cooked nicely, we could not eat it. There was no kids menu which seemed odd. Upon leaving I asked for our food to be packed up to take home as we could not eat it all and it all seemed like too much trouble for the girl behind the counter. I doubt I will be returning...

We visited the ION Cafe on a rainy Saturday. The wait staff greeted us with a smile and showed us to our table on the rear deck. The rear deck is well presented, clean and has a nice atmosphere. I noticed all of the wait staff were young which is a great thing for the local community. All were well presented and friendly. Ordering was available via an online menu or you could opt to order directly from the kitchen. We chose the online option, it was easy to use. The Mocha I order was delicious. We ordered the ION Burger with Sweet Potato Chips. It was very tasty and very filling. The reason I only gave 4 stars is the kitchen staff have to take garbage bags via the rear deck through the seated customers to exit downstairs. It was a bit off putting. I understand it is a bit nitpicky, and probably not viable or possible, but maybe in the future a new exit could be built directly off the kitchen.

Charming cafe for breakfast/brunch/lunch. I recommend booking for larger groups. Cosy but spacious back deck encompassed by a huge Jacaranda tree (just visited today in October whilst in full flower). Amazing menu, with great option to create your own feast. Reasonably priced. Top service from the guys that brought out our drinks and meals (party of 6). Food was delicious, and was brought out promptly. Parking out the back down a steep driveway. Top marks all around for ambiance, and the chefs and waiters. Looking forward to our next visit.
