JK is a cute, but dated Indian restaurant located in a quiet corner of Indooroopilly, near the intersection of Station Rd and Riverview Terrace. To draw attention, it features fairy lights outside, but on a quiet Thursday night, we were the only diners. A few take-away customers came and went during our visit.
The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. On this pleasant Brisbane spring evening, we opted for the outdoor area, which was quite enjoyable. The interior decor was tired looking and in need of a refresh. However, since we were the sole diners, our experience was smooth, with fast, efficient and polite service from a young waitress and the friendly owner/manager.
The food was generally satisfactory, with one exception: the vegetable samosas. The outer coating was overcooked and hard, and they were overly salty for my liking. The main courses were much better. We ordered butter chicken curry, lamb saagwala, rice, and naan bread. The portion sizes were generous, leaving us with enough leftovers for lunch the following day. Each dish was fresh and tasty, with succulent and tender meat flavoured by rich herbs and spices. The naan bread and fragrant Basmati rice complemented the meal well.
For dessert, we chose our favourite - gulab jamun - which was delicious . The two round sweet balls soaked in syrup were the perfect way to end our meal.
For some reason, there was no beer to be had here, which was disappointing. Fortunately though all was not lost as the manager directed us to the well stocked BWS liquor store nearby where we bought a couple of beers and enjoyed those with a fruity mango lassi.
The total cost for the evening was reasonable $78, which included a drink, an entree, two mains with rice and naan bread, and a dessert.
Toilets are located upstairs. There are sufficient male and female cubicles, which are reasonably clean and well-stocked. However, the outdated hand dryer in the men's room should be upgraded.
Overall, despite the lack of atmosphere due to being the only diners, the evening was enjoyable. The food was fresh and tasty with generous portions, while the service was fast and friendly.
Prices were quite reasonable given the current hyperinflationary crisis. Dining outdoors on the spacious terrace made for a pleasant experience on a warm spring night.
Parking is conveniently available on Station Rd, with restrictions ending at 5:30 PM on weekdays. For those travelling by train, Indooroopilly station is just a...
Read moreMe and my partner went to JK Curry and Tandoori restaurant in Indooroopilly on Sat night! We ordered the coconut rice, paneertikkamasala , naanbread and beef saagwala
They definitely don't skimp on their paneer or meat in their curry dishes, which I loved! The naan bread was buttery and delicious! You could smell it as it was placed on the table. Tikka was a good amount of spicy and full of flavour. Might be too much for someone sensitive to spice, but we loved it! The Saagwala is a spinach and cream curry that I've never tried before! It was so so good and I will 1000% get it again. It is worth ordering it my friends, especially from here! Beef literally fell apart with a spoon, so soft and juicy.
My only critique is that the coconut rice was not very coconuty at all. It was only saffron rice with Tiny flakes of coconut mixed in. Might’ve been a mistake on the order, but it was no big deal! Still tasty rice!
I would go here again for sure! I'd rate it a 9/10! Check out TK Restaurant in...
Read moreI've been dining at JK's for over 5 years without any complaint as their food has always been 'spot on' and the service, impeccable.
The owners, Sanjay and Pushpa, have always been fantastic to deal with and any special request was treated as 'can do'.
However, a recent change in the ownership has resulted in issues that compel this review.
Papads (that are complimentary at EVERY Indian restaurant that I've ever visited) are now available to purchase only.
My entree (and my girlfriend's too) was not a patch on what we've grown used to.
The food tasted stale/dry and didn't look visually appetising.
Things like a slice or two of lemon are no longer offered with entrees, instead a tiny wedge of lemon arrived with the entree.
I hope the new owner is reading this review and taking on board that cutting corners like the complimentary papads isn't going to win them any patronage, nor is the sub-standard food likely to bring me/us back to what used to be our favourite...
