I have fond memories of this place from my teen years, so I decided to relive the nostalgia and try this place again. Spent a good deal of money with some mates getting curry. Order three large sized curries and a few naans.
The gravy was way too watery for my liking. The flavour itself wasn’t bad (not amazing), but I was disappointed by the lack of chicken. For a while I thought that there wouldn’t be enough chicken pieces for each of us to have one. I think that if you’re going to have different sized options, you cannot simply add extra gravy without adding meat, especially when that gravy is hella watered down.
The naan was actually decent. It was better than my favourite Indian restaurant in Morningside (Curryville), but doesn’t come close to my favourite Indian restaurant in Mt Gravatt (Dosa Hut).
I think the meal itself probably deserves a 3/5 stars, but you get 2/5 for not giving me a receipt. Instead you said I could take a photo of the order written down. Not sure how I feel about that. I usually don’t care about these things, but the places that usually don’t give a tax invoice also charge cheaper prices.
Overall, I have enough nostalgia in my system to try this place one more time. Should that experience be better, I’ll likely change this review. But I suspect that they’ve change owners in the last...
Read moreI do quite like the food here. I normally get a malai kofta or butter paneer. Good flavours, fairly generous with paneer. But wow they are VERY over priced. For the amount you get, it's a ridiculous price tag and rice isn't included with ANYTHING.
Also.. BEWARE, if you order directly online via their website, the earliest time it advises you can pick up is 10.30am. If you show up, as I did, at this time.. you will be told that they OPEN at 10.30am and you'll have to wait a half hour for food. No apologies, no free rice or anything for your trouble. I did ask for rice to be thrown in free of charge, which they agreed to, but then charged me for anyway...
SHANTI INDO-LANKAN you need to CHANGE your website to have your pick up times actually be correct.
And to anyone out there reading this..there is a REAL OPPORTUNITY to open a successful indian restaurant in this area because this place charges too much and the other place in Jindalee is terrible quality. If you charge reasonable prices and can make halfway decent indian food, you will do VERY well for yourself in the western suburbs (especially given that rising cost of living is making people more selective and price-conscious when choosing to buy take away food) and probably put both these places out...
Read moreWas there on mother's day sunday, placed order at 5.50pm over the counter, got charged extra 10 cents for card payment. they never advise about it. after payment went through, the server said the wait for my takeaway order will be 30 mins. there was one other couple inside the restaurant. my food came only after 40 minutes. i told the server i was unhappy being told 30 mins wait time. she said "as you can see we are very busy". Beware for all the online and phone call orders while waiting for your meals in store, and all these online customers that you cant really see. So many food delivery guys coming in and out with paper bags of food while I was waiting for my $17.90 of 5 pieces of chicken in a lot of curry sauce and $11.90 of 4 pieces of paneer pakora. Server said it was my pakora that is taking time. However it was unclear how deepfried cheese could take that long. Curry is yummy. Will not order...
