TL;DR - Big fan of other Maru locations, and this one has everything I love about them and more. Staff are so so so nice, food is good quality, price is reasonable, ambiance is a little chockers but nothing crazy.
My experience - I took my parents here opening night as they have never had charcoal barbecue in Brisbane. Unfortunately they do not accept bookings - only walk ins.
We arrived around 7PM and the place was very busy, young couples and young families alike.
We ordered Combo D, Fried Chicken, and Mung Bean Pancake.
The combo comes with the mentioned side dishes seen on the menu page (thereās a theory if you want to test how authentic a Korean restaurant is - you order one thing and many dishes come out š)
It was delicious, high quality, and the charcoal fire was something fun and different from the usual gas burners of other Korean BBQ.
However what I reckon will give this place a long and abundant standing is the service people. All wait staff and kitchen hands were so nice, and helpful, without being overwhelming. This place was pretty busy so for them to remain calm, especially on the first night - gives me great confidence.
The menu comes with instructions - but staff are always willing to help. If they donāt know something theyāll find out for you, and one of our side dishes didnāt come so after the meal they brought it out. They served burnt barley water as their main water and we didnāt know what it was haha, the waiter answered our questions and checked in if everything was too our liking or if there was anything they could do to make things better.
Very fresh, very fun, standard and fair pricing, fun and light ambiance. Standout is the staff teamās consistent helpfulness and kindness. Will definitely be coming back, and I recommend you give it a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe environment is incredibly clean and fresh. As soon as we walked in, a staff member greeted us warmly and guided us to our table. A special shoutout to Jenniferāshe was so friendly and efficient throughout our visit. She cleared our plates promptly after we finished eating and refilled our water the moment she noticed our bottle was empty.
Another standout was Abby, who gave us a very warm welcome and patiently answered all our questions. Weād also like to acknowledge one of the female staff members (sorry, we didnāt catch her name) who managed the BBQ coals. She was so considerate and even reminded us to be careful not to bump the bottom of the table to avoid any accidentsāsuch a thoughtful gesture!
What stood out the most was how hardworking the entire staff was. You could see everyone giving their best effort, yet they always had a smile on their faces whenever they saw us. Their work ethic is truly commendable, and it made our time at Maru even more enjoyable. Weāre so grateful and thankful for this wonderful experience.
We ordered their banquet special, and I highly recommend it! The pricing is great, and the ingredients were so fresh and plentiful. The beef was top-quality, and the pork bean soup with tofu was absolutely delicious.
This Maru is hands down the best Iāve been to in Brisbane, far better than the one in the city! I highly recommend it, and Iāll definitely be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMaru in city used to be my favorite Korean BBQ and I was looking forward to this new branch. However, after two times dining in, I was so disappointed with the customer service and the food quantity. There were so many flies and bugs at the first time I dined in and I found a bug in my soybean soup after I ate half of it. Today I had BBQ and the size of the BBQ combo SHOCKED me. There were soup and rice coming with the combo and we can refill the kimchi for free in the other Maru. This place costs $3 for each refill of the kimchi and no rice nor soup. At the end of the meal, the cap of the ventilator dropped and all the dirty oil dripped on our food. We called the staff twice and she said nothing but only took the cap away from the table, completely ignored the dirty oil on our food. We just wasted our wagyu and veg because no one was dealing with this problem even there were only two tables had customers dinning in. WONT COME BACK TO THIS...
