Piggy Back has been one of my favourite cafes for its vibrant and unique appeal. It’s one of the few cafes I’ve seen in QLD that do ‘rainbow’ coffee, and for that I think it’s worth a visit a least once. The coffee blend itself is often a bit of a hit or miss, depending on the barista that makes it. Likewise, the food that we have tried has been very underwhelming. Our last visit, we got the salt and pepper calamari, which was very hard and uncomfortable to eat. Everything is very ‘instagrammable’ not necessarily delicious, but then again I have only tried a few menu items. Staff have been pleasant each visit, but never go out of their way to be friendly. Overall, I love this cafe’s vibe, which may be why I keep coming back. It’s always busy, always vivacious, and everything always looks great. If more attention was put into the taste of their menu items, I would definitely be raving about the place. Until then, a visit every now and then is enough for us!

I live on the Northside so this cafe is definitely out of the way for me, but made for a nice side trip when visiting DFO just down the road from there for some shopping. I went for the rainbow coffee (they charge you an extra $2 for the privilege and the coffee shot is served on the side, so you have to pour it in yourself) but it makes for a pretty picture! That said, it wasn't a very strong coffee at all and seemed like a mild roast. The strawberry unicorn hot chocolate was ridiculously sweet, but oh, so colourful to look at. The bacon, egg & basil savoury muffin was delicious and not too expensive ($4.50 - cheaper than the rainbow coffee!) and the staff were cheerful & friendly. Would I go back? As it's a bit of a trek for me, probably not, but at least I saw what the fuss was about & got a lovely photograph out of it!

Expectation vs reality, unfortunately it did not live up to my hopes. I abandoned my rainbow coffee after 2 sips, just awful. Way too much milk and the coffee shot itself just not nice coffee. When you pour it into the mug of milk it overflows. I had the zucchini corn fritters which were actually waffles. They lacked the crispy crunch on the outside and weren't very warm so the texture seemed stale. Overall taste was nice though. The avocado and tomato mixture on top was really nice but I seemed to get a lot of the stem from I assume watercress? My partner got the piggy benny and he said it was nice. He got the neon coffee and wasn't a fan. All up this place has potential to be better, a few minor tweaks and I think they could really nail it.

I have never written a bad review before but I have been to Piggyback in its glory days and it has definitely fallen. What used to be incredible coffee and creative tasty food has very sadly taken a turn for the worse. The food was terrible, mushrooms doused in olive oil till dripping off them, hash brown which tasted like they been overcooked alongside fish in the fryer. I couldn't finish my food or my coffee. Then to top this off, the customer service from the owner was atrocious. I ordered a vegetarian breakfast and when it was brought out was the meat version, I said sorry I didn't order that, the poor waitress was then told by the owner to give the meat breakfast back to me telling me this is what I actually ordered. I once again advised I'd been vegetarian 26 years and definitely did not order this. I went inside to speak to the owner about this where she proceeded to argue with me that I had ordered this by mistake as the meat and vege version had a similar name. I didn't even know that the meat version existed nor was it on the menu so still wasn't sure how I managed to allegedly order this. She eventually remade the breakfast which I couldn't finish and I promptly went next door to where I know I can get a fantastic coffee any day of the week. We can safely say we will...

My partner and I came here for breakfast today, it's been awhile since we have last been for a meal here. The service from all the staff was lovely, as they were very polite and greeted us with smiles. The coffee was fantastic as well, could have been slightly warmer though, but that is just a personal preference.

The down side was honestly the food. My partner got pancakes and I myself got the breakfast crossiant. The food was a very big let down, I tried some of my partners pancakes and it was very chewy and doughy, she tried a bit of my crossiant and agreed it didn't taste very fresh. My crossiant had avocado in it which had some very black spots, the halloumi had such a weird taste to it and the egg did as well. Unfortunately we both really did not enjoy our food, and I think as a cafe in a city such as Brisbane you have a lot of competition and if the food isn't good especially for a $17 crossiant then you are going to loose customers. We used to love the food here but I have to say today was terrible. The ambience of the Cafe is lovely, the coffee is lovely, the staff are all lovely and welcoming but the food needs some work. I really like supporting small business, but I can't stand when you pay a decent price for food you can make...

Feeling very disappointed after our breakfast at Piggy Back Cafe this morning. Since we expected there to be an Easter holiday rush, we arrived early. Despite this, we waited 30 minutes for food to arrive - at which point only 1 of the 4 meals were delivered. We then had to wait an extra 20 minutes for the other three meals to arrive and although the waitress apologised for the delay (which we appreciated) the meals were completely cold?! Our drinks also arrived staggered and each of us were disappointed with them as the coffee tasted burnt. My mother in law ordered the miso mushrooms which were meant to have a generous slather of sweet potato puree (as was pictured on the menu) but her dish had 4 small dots - I regret not taking a photo. Overall a really awful experience which is disappointing considering we have previously enjoyed visiting Piggy Back Cafe. It's a shame that the quality and service has taken a turn and I'm afraid to say that we are...
