Honestly, the food was fantastic. I've been here a couple of times already and the food really doesn't disappoint. Although, like with many filipino restaurants I've been to, there are often items in the menu that aren't available, whether it's the drinks, mains or desserts. The BBQ was flavourful and juicy. The garlic rice had just the right amount of garlic and was very moist, and the adobo had the right tanginess to it. My only complaint with the food was that some of it were already cold when it was served and others, like the rice, was burning hot. Which leads me to my next point...
From the time we placed our order until the food was served, it took OVER AN HOUR. Even the drinks, which came in cans by the way, took 45 mins to arrive. We patiently waited and after an hour had passed, we asked for an estimation of how much longer. Mind you, this was peak dinner rush so we completely understand the delay. There was no snark or hidden passive aggressive undertones as it was partly expected that there was going to be a wait. What I truly did not appreciate was the waiter placing our food down and immediately giving excuses like, "...the other table ordered before you". I don't care that the other table ordered before me. All we wanted was an estimated time for our meal, as you can expect we were pretty hungry at this point. I did not ask for any reason or any excuses. So don't come at me with that tone and attitude. Be for real.
My second gripe is that I had ordered dessert, which at the time I ordered was available. As dinner progressed and we moved on to the next course, I was advised that my dessert of choice had all been sold and so I would have to pick another one. Fine. It's fine whatever. But I would hope that when someone orders a limited item, they'd set it aside so that they are still able to deliver on their promise of this dessert. Had I been warned that they were sold out, I would've accepted it and moved on. But when I ordered, I was under the impression that this was available. It did paint part of my experience with disappointment.
The night was suppose to celebrate milestones and success but it was just a little bit lacklustre. Rest assured that if I were to recommend this place to friends and extended family, I'd be truly honest about my experience. Also I wouldn't recommend this to my non-filipino friends because I'd feel quite embarrassed. Honestly I even felt embarrassed that I had suggested this place to my family.
Overall, although the food was delicious, and truly compliments to the chef, the experience truly tainted our dinner and we could no fully appreciate the delicious meal presented to us. My cravings for the flavours of my hometown and the experience of being in a filipino restaurant were not fully...
Read moreMy family and I will happily travel for a good Filipino restaurant in Brisbane, but this is definitely one we won’t be going back to. First and last unfortunately and I had high hopes for Rex’s, as we love supporting small businesses especially those of Filipinos’.
We dined in tonight after making a reservation and ordered our food at 5:30pm, which was 4x bbq skewers, 4 mains and 3 milk tea drinks originally. We had come after a big table had ordered so we knew it may take longer, but by 6:30pm we still didn’t have our food and the big table had been served their desserts already. I asked to follow up by this time (not realising we’d been waiting for so long already) and was told because of the big table in the middle it would take a long time. Other tables who’d arrived after us had already been served their food and I asked how that was possible and the server told me it’s because they preordered. So it was apparently OUR fault for expecting food sooner than an hour after ordering since we hadn’t preordered, yet we were in the restaurant at least 30mins before these people had arrived. We were served our food at 6:45pm which meant if I hadn’t asked about our orders, we probably would’ve waited for longer till I’d asked.
I knew ‘preordering’ was an excuse because our table ordered ‘halo halo’ dessert at around 6:25pm which was served to us about 15mins later. So really they had FORGOTTEN our original order. So 15mins after following up our food order, we were finally served our mains with our dessert melting in front of us since we’d been served it before our mains arrived.
About 20mins into eating our meal the servers came to apologise and reminded us to preorder next time we come so it doesn’t take too long. At the time of booking if this is preferred, why did they not tell us to ‘preorder’? It was just all excuses to us. Either way, people sitting to dine in shouldn’t have to be prioritised last because of preorders since we are the ones literally sitting there waiting for our food already when preorder customers may not have even arrived yet.
After the wait the food ended up only being ‘okay’. The kare kare lacked taste, the pork in the sinigang hadn’t been boiled long enough, but we did enjoy the BBQ skewers and sisig as they were tasty and of generous portions.
It was disappointing overall as the waiting time of 1hr 15mins, since we hadn’t ‘preordered’ making it OUR fault apparently which outweighed the couple positives from our experience this evening. There was no reimbursements offered, just blame put on us for not...
Read moreI was genuinely looking forward to dining at Rex’s Cuisine tonight, but unfortunately, the experience turned out to be one of the most disappointing restaurant visits I’ve had — especially for a place that’s been hyped up on social media.
From the moment we walked in, it was clear the restaurant was poorly managed. The interior is overcrowded with far too many tables and chairs for the available space — an immediate safety hazard, let alone uncomfortable for diners. It felt more like a cramped function room than a welcoming dining area.
The wait times were ridiculous for what should be simple dishes. We ordered well before a reserved table and before several others, yet somehow those guests received their meals first. It’s clear there’s no system in place — definitely not first-in, first-served. Just chaotic.
When our food finally came, it was cold. The BBQ sticks weren’t just lukewarm — they were cold, suggesting they were pre-cooked and left sitting. The rice was dry and poorly cooked, clearly lacking water. Overall, nothing was fresh, warm, or appetising. To make matters worse, the quality didn’t remotely justify the price.
Staff were nowhere to be found at multiple points during service. It was clear the place was understaffed and unorganised. No one seemed to be actively managing the floor or ensuring customers were served in a reasonable time frame.
It was honestly like stepping into a textbook case of what not to do in hospitality — disorganised, inefficient, and careless. Sadly, other reviews here reflect the same experience: long waits, poor service, and forgotten orders.
What capped off the night? A guest ahead of us wanted to order a Halo-Halo, only to be told they didn’t have the ingredients. This isn't a one-off — it’s a sign of a place that’s simply not prepared or equipped to serve its own menu.
This is, hands down, the worst Filipino dining experience I’ve ever had. You're far better off supporting places like:
Best Friends (Fortitude Valley)
Kubo’s Bar & Grill
Mabuhay Grill (Gold Coast DFO)
Cerai (Melbourne CBD)
It’s such a shame — all the hype on Instagram and Facebook about the rebranding doesn’t reflect reality. This restaurant ignores feedback, lacks professionalism, and feels more like a social experiment than a serious business.
We won’t be coming back, and frankly, it’s hard to understand how they’re still licensed to operate. Disappointing doesn’t even begin to...
