The food is reasonable, on par with all the other local Vietnamese eateries, but the service is dreadful. The service staff are so inexperienced, it's laughable. When the patrons are clearly not of Vietnamese origin, it annoys me that the management insist on sending to the table someone who has difficulty understanding English. For a group of 4, we ordered 2 serves of 'make your own' rice paper rolls, along with 4 main courses. At least 3 times while the order was being taken, I stressed that we wanted the rice paper roll dishes to come out first, as 'entrees', followed by the 4 main course dishes, once we had eaten the rice paper rolls. Despite this clear instruction, we still managed to get the main course dishes served at exactly the same time the requested 'entrees' were served. It seems impossible to make them understand basic dining etiquette. Other Vietnamese restaurants in the area manage to understand this process, why is it so hard for Tan Thanh? It's clearly a policy they have of using the cheapest and most inexperienced service staff they can find. It's not the first time it has happened to us here, so we won't bother going back. There's better service with just about every other Vietnamese...
Read moreI can’t recommend this place enough. Tan Thanh is probably my favorite place to eat, ever. Sometimes I make a trip just to eat here, and I think if I had a last meal on earth, it would be their combination wonton noodle soup.
You don’t come here for fancy atmosphere, or really attentive service - you come here because the food is seriously, crazy good. If you’re a foodie and here for the love of great eats and you’re okay with a T-shirt dress code environment, this is the place you must try.
The menu is ridiculously large and you’ll find something for everyone here. My partners favorite is the combination noodle salad. It’s always fresh and delicious and the soups will make you stop and make an audible “mmmm”. The portion sizes are massive - most things you can probably split between two people. Meals average around the $15 mark.
The next time you’re in the area, make the effort to find this spot. It’s a little hidden down one of the walkways, but you can access it easily from the outside too. I promise you...
Read moreLong-visiting customer of over 10 years, I always recommend this place to those new to Vietnamese food. Perfect for western and Vietnamese large families wanting a good feed. The portions of food is fantastic with a wide range of appetising colours and variety on texture and taste, representative of what common and traditional Vietnamese food is like, accommodating to anything you may feel like eating with a large menu, from rice to different kinds of noodles in broth. Beware that this is a very busy place in the busiest times (lunch and dinner) and service can get crippling with the waiting times for meals being moderately extended and waiter staff are hard to flag. This is understandable though and the staff are very hard working. The only other downfall is the cleanliness of the place - it is rather worn and the tables are only quickly wiped with a damp cloth (no sprays) and all surfaces including menus and free cups of water...
