Wednesday 21 August - Guesswork and Good Vibes: The Guess-perados’ Epic Night at Paddo Tavern
Alright, let me set the scene: It’s a Wednesday night, and our ragtag crew of trivia misfits has officially grown. Shaun, Nick, Paul, Nathan, and I saunter into The Paddo Tavern like we own the place. We've got our eyes on the prize—or at least on the chicken wings. This was the night the Guess-perados were born. The trivia team with a name, a mission, and, well, a deep love for pub grub.
The Paddo Tavern is a solid venue—your classic Aussie pub with the kind of vibe where you could just as easily be watching the footy or, as we were, preparing to flex some brainpower over a couple of pints. We found our spot, grabbed our drinks, and settled in for what would be a trivia night to remember.
Now, Quiz Meisters trivia isn’t your run-of-the-mill, dusty old quiz night where you’re asked to recite Shakespeare or list obscure 18th-century facts. No, this was a full-blown, two-hour, cross-generational blitz of absurd, hilarious, and sometimes head-scratching questions, with wild onscreen videos and interactive games that made you wonder what you just signed up for. And leading the charge? Harry, our trivia host for the evening.
Harry was the kind of host who could juggle being trivia master and rockstar-in-the-making all at once. Seriously, the man was buzzing about his band getting ready to crush the upcoming Battle of the Bands. His energy was contagious — he didn’t just host the trivia; he owned it. Harry’s humour was sharp, his enthusiasm high, and he brought the kind of "host with the most" swagger that kept us coming back for more. It was like he was a quiz ninja, slipping in zingers between rounds, all while reminding us about his band’s next gig.
As for the Guess-perados, we came out swinging. With a team of five, the pressure was on to live up to our brand-new name. It was a name that screamed dangerous guesswork, and boy, did we lean into that. Whether we knew the answer or were completely winging it, we tackled each question like a trivia desperado taking on the Wild West.
By the end of the night, we found ourselves in the top ten, out of maybe 20 teams. Not too shabby for a team that had just come into existence! We had our moments of brilliance, our moments of absolute guesswork, and everything in between. But most importantly, we had a bloody good time.
The Paddo Tavern served up solid trivia fuel—good food, cold beer, and plenty of laughs. The wings? On point. The atmosphere? Laid-back, with just enough competitive edge to keep us on our toes.
If you’re after a trivia night that’s more than just answering questions—where you can crack jokes, play ridiculous games, and feel like part of a pub-wide comedy show—Quiz Meisters at The Paddo is the place to be. And if you hear the Guess-perados are in town, well, you’d better saddle up and bring your A-game.
Until next time, cheers to more pints, more parmys, and more guesses that may or may not make sense! The Guess-perados are a band of random mates who grow in size every fortnight, hitting up a new trivia venue for fun, laughs, and some serious guesswork. From pub to pub, they bring their unique brand of humor, trivia skills (or lack thereof), and a love for good times over...
Read moreThis is a large, airy and super comfy place with masses of tables in various different dining areas, inside and outside.
We had taken the precaution of booking ahead for a Thursday night, but it wasn’t necessary, as there was plenty of space available. That’s not to say that it was empty though, far from it, there was a decent turnout, but being so big, there’s room for everyone who wants to dine here.
The decor is colourful and bright with maritime and sporty themes. There are high tables and bar stools, wooden floors, a large bar counter and ample strong lighting. It all works well to create a cheerful and welcoming space that’s warm and homely. It’s the kind of place that, the moment you walk into, you feel at ease and relaxed, and we enjoyed dining here.
Being a Thursday, the special of the day was the chicken parmigiana and a drink (beer or wine) for a reasonable $25. My wife and I dined, we availed ourselves of this offer and we weren’t disappointed. And in a nice touch, a pretty waitress with a mask came to our table and offered to take our order. That was handy, as it meant that we didn’t have to go up to the bar counter ourselves and wait around to place our order. It was all done extremely efficiently, and our waitress was friendly and polite. Drinks and meals came out quickly and in the correct order. Fast and efficient service is the hallmark of a professionally run establishment and full marks to the Paddo because they excelled at that. But one can tell that the guys who run this place know what they’re about, because it hums like a well oiled machine. All the staff are professional in their attitude, neatly attired, polite and hardworking. It’s a pleasure to dine in such a place.
Our chicken “parmies” as they call them, were fresh and tasty dishes and we both enjoyed our meals. The chicken was tender and succulent, cooked in a crispy batter, and covered with lashings of cheese, topped with ham and served with a nice dollop of wholesome salad and crunchy chips. A delicious meal, and a decent serving size too. You’ll never leave here hungry. The only thing that I wasn't mad about was the camp-style tin plates, mine slightly chipped as well. I prefer regular porcelain crockery, tin plates don’t turn me on.
Toilets are in the corner, there are adequate male and female cubicles, but the 1980s hand dryer in the gents could probably do with an upgrade!
We found easy parking just behind the Paddo in nearby Campbell Street, where there didn’t appear to be any after-hours restrictions.
Altogether, a fab night at the Paddo, with a relaxed, casual and laid back atmosphere, excellent food and fast, friendly service. Making a booking was easy via their website. We received immediate confirmation via email and a reminder...
Read moreI thought I would share my experience talking on the phone to a Manager called Aleisha. We order Uber Eats and got two Parmi combos. They have one can, chips, salad and a parmi. When the food arrived we received 2 parmi's only with nil sides or drinks. Initially I had only noticed that the 2 drinks were missing. Ubereats was notified by their help section. I then noticed the rest of the sides were missing. As I had already sent through an issue to Ubereats I was unable to place a second issue. I called Paddy Tavern and spoke with Aleisha so I could work out if they had just given the driver the wrong order or how their ticket only said 2 parmi's and not the combo. She explained It was Ubereats fault and I need to contact them. I started to explain that the receipt and invoice is correct at our end but id didn't get to finish. She started screaming at me and then hung up. I called back she hung up immediately. I called back again and asked for the Manager. She said she was and started screaming again. I asked her to deescalate as it was only about food but she hang up again. I called back and got Riley who calmly explained the process to me. I thanked him and hung up. Aleisha your behaviour was absolutely disgusting and you should be ashamed of how you treat people who are being polite and respectful. How you were given a promotion to that role is beyond me. Paddy Tavern should be seriously looking at how their front line supervisors conduct themselves. Problem occurred 26/8/24 approximately 1730h. God help anyone who has to ask Aleisha...
