Food My wife and I dined on a quiet Mon night in late Nov. Between us, we shared a mixed entrĂ©e, a curried beef, an Indian salad and to accompany that, a bowl of basmati rice and a serve of garlic and cheese naan. For dessert, what else, but our favourite Gulab jamun? Unfortunately, this place does not sell alcohol, so for drinks, it was a mango lassi and a sprite. It’s hard to pinpoint the best dish because everything was so delicious: It was all fresh, tasty and infused with those delicate and aromatic Indian herbs and spices that we love so much. The mixed entrĂ©e plate had a nice, varied selection: Samosas, tandoori chicken pieces, cubed beef and onion bhaji. The beef main course was tender, flavoursome and well cooked in a mild curry sauce. The fluffy rice, melt-in-your-mouth naan bread and little salad made the perfect accompaniments. Servings sizes were generous, and there were even some leftovers to enjoy for lunch the next day.

Service This is where this place really excels. The hands-on owner is a super friendly, polite and congenial host who will make you feel welcome the moment you walk into his restaurant. He was chatty and attentive, and made sure that everything ran smoothly from beginning to end. Drinks, entrĂ©e, main meals and desserts came out quickly and in the correct order, despite them being busy fulfilling a steady stream of take-away and home delivery orders, which I assume has now become the staple of their business. Those of you who are familiar with my reviews, will know how much I dislike restaurants that prioritise their take-away and home delivery customers over their in-house diners. This wasn’t the case at S.K. The service throughout the evening was fast and efficient.

Atmosphere You’ll feel like you’re in a bit of a time warp at S.K. It’s decorated in a retro Indian style, with thick dark carpets, exotic arches and colourful religious and spiritual artefacts and decorations on the walls. Except it’s not really retro by design, it probably hasn’t been updated in decades. The owner told me that they’ve been here since the 80s, and it shows. Nevertheless, the effect is to create a warm, inviting and homely atmosphere that has a nice oriental feel to it. The wooden furniture is solid and comfortable. It was pretty empty the night we dined: Apart from us, there was only one other occupied table, which did make for a rather quiet atmosphere.

Cost After our 25% Entertainment Club discount we paid a modest 60 shekels for two drinks, an entrĂ©e plate, a salad, a beef curry, rice, naan bread and dessert. Certainly can’t complain about that, especially when Australia is in the grip of a Weimar Republic-like hyperinflation crisis.

Toilets There are clean and well provisioned toilets down a fairly long flight of stairs, with separate mail and female cubicles.

Parking There’s plenty of street parking on Given Terrace or any one of the nearby side streets. We parked on Campbell Street, behind the famous “Paddo'' pub and bistro, a short, easy walk to S.K.

Summary We had a pleasant evening at S.K., and everything ran smoothly. There’s no need to book. Food is outstanding, service is friendly and efficient and the ambience is chilled, relaxed and laid back. Add to that, modest prices, clean toilets and easy street parking, and you have all the ingredients for a pleasant evening...

Wow! Wow! Wow! As soon we stepped through the door I was gobsmacked by the beauty of the decor. Then we were met by a lovely gentleman who made us feel right at home and provided excellent recommendations on the menu. I chose to use the word stunning repeatedly during our dining experience as that's the only word fitting to describe the ambience, decor and food. This is the kind of restaurant that I would go to for anything from a big celebration to a lone dining experience as it seemed to be able to handle whatever customer or group came through the door. The restaurant was very busy and lots of group tables, yet the food speed and service never seemed to be hindered by this. Cannot wait to...

The food was excellent, and the ambiance was delightful. However, the highlight was undoubtedly the stunning indoor scenery.

I'd rate the food a solid 5 out of 5, but the indoor scenery deserves an 8 out of 5!

Many thanks for the wonderful hospitality and the spectacular views. I truly enjoyed the vistas from both inside and outside.

The food? Scrumptious doesn't even begin to cover it!

Words fall short in describing the incredible atmosphere, scenery, food, and overall ambiance. It's an experience that defies description.

I'm already planning to bring my entire family lineage to experience this exceptional...

Excellent service but sadly the food was lacking in my opinion. The curry portions were small considering their price and lacked complexity. I was interested by the chilli naan on the menu which was talked up by a caption “for those that enjoy pain” or something. It was simply some chilli flakes inside the naan. Not at all spicy for someone who enjoys spicy food. The naan was soft and overall a good texture but I’m looking for a naan that’s light and fluffy with the bubbles that come from cooking it in the tandoor oven. It’s a pity this place misses the mark because the decor is really cool and gives good ambience.
