We had a booking this Sunday past and it was a very average experience.
When we were sat at our table we were told to scan a QR code instead of being given a menu, which would have been fine given COVID and all IF the online menu actually worked. It seemed like a desktop site and didn't work well on mobile.
We were not given any water on arrival, so while the waitress took our orders I asked her for a bottle of water for the table. She offered 600mL bottled water, but I said "oh, just tap water thanks". Well, you'd think I'd punched her granny in the face, the way she reacted. After previously being very helpful, her attitude totally changed. She didn't even ask if we wanted anything else, just walked away. We also had to ask two more times for a bottle of water, only to be given 2 small glasses about 45 minutes later.
The worst part of the experience was definitely the food. Coffees came out relatively quickly and were nice, but we were at the cafe for almost an hour and our food still hadn't arrived. We thought it was an extremely busy Sunday rush, until the table next to us who arrived 20-30 minutes after us received their meals while we were still waiting (after the waitress tried to hand it to us, first).
The wait staff went to check and brought our meals out a few minutes later. At this point, it's obvious that we were forgotton. When they finally came out, my partner's meal was nice (chicken bennie), but my meal was stone cold/going hard (hash). I'm happy to pay a premium price for good food (my meal alone was $25) but I expect the food to come out hot.
I would have mentioned this to someone on the day, but not once during our meal or when we paid were we asked how it was (they knew it was bad and didn't want to hear that, perhaps?). Nobody ever apologised for the wait on our food or offered to comp a coffee or even acknowledged that waiting an hour for food isn't great.
I'm still giving this cafe 3 stars. Despite the cold food and pretty terrible service, the flavours of the food are really nice. The coffee was also nice and came out quite quickly. I think they really just need to work on their customer service, and maybe turn off uber EATS if you can't keep...
Read moreI just moved to Moorooka and have visited Todd & Pup on four separate occasions. On every single occasion I have been served by the same waitress who has made the experience really frustrating and has stopped me ever wanting to come back. Two incidents stand out, however, and here they are:
Once I waited to be seated, and after waiting around where signs say to wait and being ignored for five minutes, sat down at a table with my children because they were getting tired of standing next to the empty tables. After a further ten minutes, this waitress abruptly tells me and the kids the table we are sitting at is reserved (there was no sign stating this) and that we needed to move. We do so, and she tries to leave before taking our order after telling us to sign in via the QR code as she rushes away from our table. I quickly tell her we signed in already only want coffees as she tries to leave our table, and even though she ignored us and treated us rudely for so long, she sneakily tries to upsell me a giant cupcake for my kids with their babycinos (we don't eat that much sugar, especially at breakfast and I had assumed she was talking about a tiny thing to nibble on the side of the kids plates, not a cupcake as big as their head, and when I realised what she was talking about, she had already run away from our table, and ignored my "excuse me", which was as loud as I could make it without being rude).
Second time was yesterday. once again, waited to be seated and ignored by the same waitress. So because my partner and I have our dog, we sit down. Waitress eyeballs us through the window, and doesn't come out to us. cleans outside tables, eyeballs us, doesn't come over. Serves other customers, ignores us. We waited about ten minutes at a table (again), had already signed in and knew what we wanted, and decided that our mood had been killed, and there was no point trying to get her attention anymore, so we walked away.
You guys are our closest local cafe, and the few times we have been served, the coffee and food is good. it is a shame that the least skilled and most easily hired/fired staff member on your team is making your business seem...
Read moreMy husband and I recently dined in for breakfast.
This is the second time we have been here, the first time I had a mushroom on toast dish which was so strongly overpowered by the taste of fresh ginger it was inedible. The coffee was great though and my friends enjoyed their meals so I chalked it up to a bad day.
We have ordered here on Uber eats a couple of times and it’s been great.
Upon arriving today it took about ten minutes for anyone to greet and seat us - outside dining area was almost empty so that was odd.
We were seated and it took half an hour for our meals to come out by which time we had finished our coffees and ordered some new ones.
Our meals came out, and they were nice. My halloumi eggs Benedict had some bok Choi on the toast which made the toast quite soggy and it was very gritty with dirt or something in the leaves (which doesn’t gross me out as that happens with bok choi, but it did ruin the texture). The flavour was lovely though. My husbands omelette was spot on.
Our second coffees came out about ten minutes after we finished eating. Our plates were never cleared.
Really strange cafe in terms of service. I don’t know if it’s a lack of staff or lack of training which is letting this place down. The staff are friendly enough and the flavours are great. A few tweaks and this place could be great. My hot tip would be to order something standard (don’t mess with a good thing, right?) and sit inside. I love love love dogs, but when 5 or more dogs are in the outside area you can’t hear yourself think over the barking and dog fights. Not the cafes fault, but definitely detracts from the experience.
We won’t be dining in again but will likely order...
