We have been visiting Westside HQ once and sometimes twice a week for the past 18 months. We sought and were given permission by the then manager to play games at the table, spending 3 hours at a time and spending on average $150 per visit.
It used to be a lovely place to go where the staff were friendly, the food good and affordable to now where the menu is limited and incredibly expensive. Apparently a lamb shank with some mash and a few strands of onion cost $30. Doesn't even come with vegetables any longer.
Service by staff has dropped considerably. They can't take a simple order correctly and when it is brought to their attention that it is wrong they try to make out that it was somehow our fault. Even providing a couple of jugs of water from the bar now seems to be an inconvenience to them.
However yesterday was the last straw. My 11 year old son found a 4cm long piece of wire from a scourer in his spaghetti. When my wife confronted the surly Manager about it his only response was and I quote " What do you expect me to do about it". Gee I would expect an apology and a replacement meal however no apology was forthcoming and his suggestion was that he give our son a piece of cake. My wife made it clear that our son hasn't had any lunch and a replacement meal should be the least he could do. Reluctantly and rather pissed off the manager provided him another meal. It would appear that the manager didn't care that had my son swallowed that piece of wire he would have wound up in hospital at the very least and not only would Westside HQ be facing a serious lawsuit, he would to. The behaviour of the manager on duty was an absolute disgrace. In my opinion he should be dismissed.
Considering the amount of money that my family has spent there and the money spent by some of our guests you would think that providing jugs of water, getting the orders right and more importantly understanding the gravity of the situation when your son finds a piece of wire in their food that you have prepared should be the least you can do.
In my opinion there far better and more affordable restaurants and taverns in the local area where you can get a more affordable meal, better service and still play the pokies if your interested in that.
As an update on this the day after this review went up I received a phone call from the General Manager. He had done no investigation regarding the incident whatsoever. Hadn't talk the Duty Manager we complained to nor the other staff nor looked at CCTV footage to see how the piece of wire got into the food in the first place. In other words he no explanation nor apology.
All he was worried about was protecting Westside HQ's and his own reputation. All he wanted to do was convince my wife and I to take down the review which wasn't going to happen after the way the Duty Manager reacted to the complaint nor the General Manager's own attitude.
In regards to your response Marc.
As I stated previously you had only phoned to convinced me to take down the review not to offer an apology and as a result I was not going to come in to the restaurant to be badgered into taking down the review. You assured me you would do a full investigation yet 2 months on this is the first contact we have had with you. You haven't provided any information as to your findings nor what actions have been taken to ensure it doesn't happen again nor what disciplinary actions were taken against the manager in question.
I think your patrons have a right to know how badly you and your staff behave when a serious...
Read moreYour average RSL. Some of the staff are less than welcoming. A certain staff member loves to loudly move the chairs around and aggressively empty the ashtrays. One would think you were inconveniencing them by being there. This person also enjoys banning people and they wonder why they lack customers. They no longer offer a courtesy bus. Though they do have a free cab on weekends.
They have a couple of food options, a cafe and a restaurant. The prices are reasonable though I can't speak to quality. The sandwiches and cakes are nice but less affordable than they were.
A fairly wide selection of spirits, a number of wines, and all the usual beers. Not many craft beers but this is an RSL. They do have fairly reasonable prices. You can earn points with each purchase as a member, which are traded for discounts or freebies (depending on the number of points you have) at the bar, cafe or from the gift case.
There is a bottle shop, though it can be a bit pricey. There are also pool tables, Keno, a Tab and lots of pokies.
There are a number of activities on offer with different things on different days ie poker on Tuesdays. They also offer live entertainment. This is on the cheesy side, I'm talking line dancing, lounge singers etc. There are also plenty of the obligatory raffles from meat trays and cash giveaways to Easter baskets and fathers day gifts.
There is a nice smoking area on the deck, where you can sit relax and have a smoke or vape while you drink your icy cold beverage. It is so nice not to be sequestered away in some tiny little smoking space next to...
Read moreWow! I recently booked a couple of tables for my brothers 50th birthday dinner and from the very beginning I was treated to nothing but amazing service. I spoke to a few different staff members in the lead up to the event, all of which went above and beyond to ensure they could accommodate us in the best way possible. On the night (23/11/24) we arrived to find that we had a whole area put aside for us, and Cathy and her team made every effort to look after us for the entire evening. The food was delicious, fresh, and served in amazing time…and Brad Holmes who was the entertainer on the night also joined in and sang happy birthday with us. I could not have asked for a better venue, service or food. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to hold an event, or even just looking for a great night out. Thank you Miranda, Cathy and all the staff for making this special celebration perfect! We appreciate your hard work and warm friendly...
