Stepping into Sherwood's KatsuCo, you're greeted with a vibrant atmosphere that's got a heartwarming buzz about it. It's casual, it's laid back and it doesn't take itself too seriously. You'll find the staff friendly, bringing an easy-going vibe that feels comfortable rather than overly formal. You're not just a customer here, you're a welcomed guest. They’ve focused on delivering quality, and that's evident in their produce. There's a clear appreciation for sourcing good quality ingredients, and it shows. The cutlets, in particular, are handled with care, cooked just right, delivering that comforting, home-cooked taste that hits the spot. It might not blow your mind, but it's the kind of satisfying meal that keeps you coming back for more. Tonkatsu Maisen Aoyama would surely give them a nod for keeping the tradition alive. They're doing it justice, even if they're not trying to compete with Tokyo’s finest. A little downside – there’s no Katsudon on the menu. It's a minor hitch, but something that could add another notch to their belt. KatsuCo’s charm lies in its simplicity. They're not trying to re-invent the wheel, just serving up good food that resonates with its patrons. It's a straightforward approach that’s refreshing in its own right. This isn’t your typical date night spot, it's more suited for a casual night out with friends or a family get-together. But it’s this unpretentious vibe that makes KatsuCo endearing. All in all, KatsuCo Sherwood is like your favourite song on the radio – it might not be groundbreaking, but it’s familiar, enjoyable and something you’d look forward to on a casual night out. It’s good, honest food that leaves you with a sense of satisfaction. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Dined here and tried all three of their pork katsu variations as they are known for their six days aged pork. The panko coating was perfectly crispy and the meat was very tender, pork flavour was mild so definitely nice to have a variety of condiments. The salt and wasabi enhances the savouriness of the pork; the katsu sauce was a milder version of bulldog sauce, less tangy and the grinded sesame adds a nutty fragrance. There was also a truffle oil which was included with the tomahawk pork rib eye set which added a rich and aromatic taste; a nice addition to change up the flavours. To be honest, couldn't really tell the difference between the tomahawk and pork loin as they were both very tender. The cheese katsu was wrapped around with pork; cheese was stretchy and tasty, surprisingly not too heavy. Also there were two different dressings for the shredded cabbage; the Japanese soy which was sweet, fruity and tangy; and the other was a black sesame mayo which actually worked quite well as the black sesame flavour was very mild. Overall a very tasty meal; portions were great, can't complain about the ratio of the panko coating to meat and the pork was tender and not dry at all. Service was great.

Tonkatsu (aka deep fried pork) is one of our favourite Japanese food. Since the pandemic we deeply miss this traditional delicacy and we are so glad to hear that KatsuCo is the first tonkatsu specialised restaurant in Brisbane! Many Japanese restaurants in Brisbane offer tonkatsu in their menu but the quality varies between restaurants. The menu is pretty simple with couple of dee fried items on offer, plus some sashimi rice, udon or soba noodles. We came here for a few times and the quality has been pretty consistent! The restaurant is located in the suburban Sherwood area, and many people like us travel from different parts of the town just coming here for the tonkatsu. The restaurant gets quite busy on the weekend, one time my in-laws came here and waited for an hour for a table then another 30 to 40 minutes for the food to arrive. Nevertheless, we really enjoy the crunchiness of the deep fried pork. It is soft and tender, and juicy! The accompanying cabbage salad is also a signature of the tonkatsu restaurant. They provided two types of salad dressings and it is so hard to choose which one to use. Anyway we will definitely be coming back all the time to satisfy our Japanese craving 🤤
