Drive 🚗 to Bungendore for our lunch for the first time on the main street of Gibraltar Street, where all the shops are. 😀 Our first entrance to The George Bar 🍸 and Dinner 🍽, what a gem 💎 and surprise is the restaurant 👌, the place is glorious, looks like you at home 🏡 but away from home 🏡. Wonderful warmly and cosy 😀 in side of the restaurant 😀. We were welcome 🙏 by friendly, 😀 Mr Aman, the Manager and Waiter looked after us as we ordered our lunch 😀, the best service that he can gave us. Thanks to the chef 👨‍🍳 who cooked 🍳 our meals. We had a surf and turf, the next American stile sticky pork ribs 😋, and the George Burgers 🍔. We by coming back again to try more of the lovely meals 😋 The area was occupied by the Ngarigo people whose northern most 🙄 lands extended to the southern shore 🙄 of Lake George and west of what is now Bungendore. The first Europeans were members of the exploratory party of Dr Charles Throsby (1777 - 2 April 1828) in 1820 who, along 😀 with Hamilton Hume (19 June 1797 - 19 April 1873). In 1824, botanist and explorer Allen Cunningham (13 July 1791 - 27 June 1839 ) passed through Bungendore. A year later, the first Europeans settlers arrived. In 1837, the survivor James Larmer (1808 or 1809 - 1886) laid out the town plan of Bungendore, and the same year 😀 they proclaimed Bungendore as a "town ". By 1848, 30 people lived in the town of Bungendore. By 1851, the population was 63. When the railway 🛤 arrived on 4 March 1885, the town began to grow more quickly. The town remained a railhead from 1885 until the line reached Queanbeyan in 1887. Coming of the railway, the 1880s proved a for the town and the population increased from 270 in 1881 to 700 by 1885. Bungendore was proclaimed a village for a second time, in 1885, as a consequence of the Crown Lands Act 1884. In 1894, gold ✨️ was discovered at Bywong. In 1901, a site known as "Lake George," just to the north of Bungendore and adjacent to Lake George, was proposed as the site for the national capital city. This did not eventuate as the drawcard of Lake George failed to impress the visiting Commissioners of the time. Today's population is 4,745, (2021 census)) Location, 38 km (24mi) E of Canberra, 70 km (43 mi) SW of Goulburn, 26 km (16 mi) E of Queanbeyan. 112 km (70 mi) NW Batemans Bay, 267 km (166 mi) SW of Sydney.

Good location and relaxing place but 44$ for salt and Pepper squid? Hi Lazarus, I wanted to address your response to my recent review of your restaurant. While I appreciate your attempt to defend your establishment, I must say that I found your tone to be quite rude and dismissive of my concerns. As a paying customer, I have the right to express my honest opinions and experiences, and I did so in a respectful and constructive manner. Your response, however, came across as defensive and unprofessional. Furthermore, I stand by my review that the food was overpriced and not up to par with other restaurants I have visited around Australia. The squid dish I ordered was not fresh and the cooking was subpar. It lacked side dishes and vegetables, which made it seem like an incomplete dish. I understand that running a restaurant is not an easy task, and constructive feedback can be hard to hear. However, responding with rudeness and defensiveness is not the way to address customer concerns. I hope that in the future, you will take customer feedback seriously and work to improve the quality of your food and service. Sincerely,
Sharon TunleySharon Tunley
The food was great, although some dishes a little pricy (ie. $50 for Ribeye meal, although expensive, we did decide to splurge, for me to find out why so pricy), it was certainly a beautiful meal, but I'm not sure $50 nice. The rest of the dishes were tasty as well. The staff were exceptionally lovely and very attentive. We got to enjoy some local wine .. highly recommend the Mr V from Lark Hill, we were pleasantly surprised with this local wine, vineyard we had passed on Bungendore Rd. The only down draw, whist the restaurant itself a pleasant decor, we were inundated with flies, especially when the meals came out. We put forward a suggestion that if they have to have the windows open for Covid safe reasons, don't mind as it was a lovely breeze, just please consider adding fly screens on the windows. Otherwise great night had by all. I would recommend a visit if you are visiting the local area.

Worth the Drive from Canberra to experience this.

This is our second time eating here and the staff are so lovely we had to come back.

This time it was a birthday dinner on a cold and wet winters night and 5 of us had a wonderful time in no small part because of the staff.

Parking is right at the door in a quiet main street. The tables are well spaced its not to loud there is a fireplace to sit by between courses The wait staff are attentive and keen to assist and we spoke with 5 different staff during the meal. Even had them check that we were ready to proceed with mains, which is a lovely personal touch.

Meals where presented very well. Enough options on the menu even for fussy kids.

We went overboard this time with the amount food, but wanted to try different things.

We ate from the "Evening and Weekend menu" If you are open to suggestions start with:

SHAREBOARDS Tasting Plate salt & pepper squid, Japanese fried chicken, beef cheek rendang, poached pear & 75 prosciutto tart

With 2 people you could just order this and maybe a single main meal to share.... It is well worth its $75 price, particularly if there are 3 or more "sharing"

MAINS Griddled Grass fed Black Angus 400g Cattleman’s Ribeye on the Bone chips, salad & your choice of sauce

American Style Sticky Pork Ribs chips, salad & onion rings

Best part for me though as contently full as i was after the above, was desert. I'd mentioned it was birthday and desert came with a candle and a staff member joining in chorus to happy birthday

Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee biscotti plus Candle.

and to top things off my adult brain asked for and received with zero hassle Kids Ice-cream: 2 scoops of vanilla ice-cream Toppings of your choice: chocolate or strawberry sauce and sprinkles

So content - so full. We laughed and joked all the way home and slept like contented bears in...

I’ve lived in many different places. I seek intimate, classy and reliable quality of food venues. In my travels, George Bar & Dining has stood above all on each of those fronts.

I only get the Parma, it’s always a great meal, the only variance tends to be size but even the smallest Parma I’ve had here beats what you get in 90% of restaurants. When the big ones come out, if you’ve got an appetite, you’re in heaven. I think steak cut chips could improve the meal, but I’m not upset, I prefer mashed potato.

Between my best mate, my partner and I, we regularly crave a Parma from George Bar. I’m usually here 2 times a week (restricting myself from 5 days).

The service is always excellent though. Warm, accomodating, proactive, and friendship driven. If you want to keep returning, the experience only gets better as the staff care for their patrons to build out friendship and banter around the service.

When you’re done with your meal, and you want to stay a bit longer, you seamlessly transition to the central space which is a very comfortable lounge area for various numbers of people in your group, accommodated by a running wood fire on a beautiful feature wall.

All in all we are going to miss the venue a lot as we move interstate, it’s the first venue I can say that for because I am critical and have higher standards than most (not a blessing, but a curse). Though that should make it even more certain for any reader to visit George Bar & Dining. The odds of disappointment are just too low to skip this place.

Thanks to Aman, the chefs, and the floor staff that continue to deliver an exceptional experience and have made our time in the region a great one during our 18...
