We arrived at the apartment which was beautiful. Gorgeous views and great location. There were a heap of stairs to get up (not easy with a million bags) but worth it. The place was well set up. All sorts of kitchen utensils. Pots, pans, cups, mugs, cutlery, even down to foils, cling wraps, oils, dishwashing and normal washing detergent PLUS a coffee machine which was a massive tick. Beach towels, clean reasonably comfortable bedding, sheets, pillows etc. Beautiful cockatoos came to our verandah and greeted us.. all 4 of them.
Now.. down side..
There was terrible internet. Took a while to work out how to connect as it was a new modem set up but finally got there. Spoke with the owner and she was lovely and helpful in setting it up although service was still terrible. We had more reception and data connection on our own data outside of the unit. Couldn't properly watch TV as it was constantly buffering. There was a particular smell of old stale paint/mould that got to the point of unbearable. We had to air out the apartment and spray it with deodorant and perfumes to help with the smell. Then my asthmatic kids struggled. The appartment was in the process of Reno's as it was two toned. There were cracks in the wall that indicated that they were doing Reno's but weren't finished yet The ensuite bathroom had no fan for when showering Both AC did not work on the top level where the kids were and we all know the temps and humidity in qld. You need AC. Fans didn't do much but circulate the hot air in the rooms. Especially when the dryer was on. The incorrect AC control was given. The washing machine was due for an update as it was the noisiest washing machine I have ever heard and/or used Place definately needed updating Mosquito nets on doors and windows were not securely put in and were loose Overall a beautiful place but what you paid for was the view. The place was definitely not 100% worth the price tag. Would still recommend it for the experience though.
I have to be honest and point out the flaws so they can be attended to and everyone else that goes there can appreciate the beauty of the place. Thankyou for the...
Read moreIf you enjoy black mould riddled rooms, mixed with a splash of poor attitude and Sass from the male equivalent Karen caretaker then this is the place for you. If the idea of sleeping outside on the cushions from the couch as your mattress and the sound of dump trucks emptying bins as your alarm clock then Shingley Beach Reaort is the Whitsundays destination you've been looking for For this exercise I'll simply refer to the caretaker as Gary
Upon check in it would be wise to check with Gary if the after hours contact number will be reachable as my 830pm calls and texts for assistance or a room change went unheard. My suggestion would be to ask if old Gaz dog if he will turn his phone off silent for the atleast a few hours after hours.
Now things happen and to be cautious of earning the Karen title for myself I attempt to apply a little lateral thought to avoid issues like this, particularly when you're faced with the possibility of sleeping on the balcony with the cushions from the couch as your mattress, we'll don't try to reach the Gazman through Facebook messenger for help as they will sinply look at the messages and not respond.
In the year of 2022 where our species is facing a considerable divide to the side we find ourselves on when considering empathy to our fellow humans. Well, my eager holiday makers, don't be fooled by Gazza's devilish charm rapscallion ways and freshly pressed polyester polo as I would say the man would be devoid of empathy to his fellow man.
I say this because upon entering the next day to sort out a room change that Gaz was reluctant to make, I walked into his mid conversation rant on how he was put out by the after hours attempt of my phone calls and texts, all from the vantage point of my luxurious balcony couch cushion bed.
Anywho, after a good run of 5 work trips over 12 months to the Whitsundays and old Shingley, Gazzas unique vision for the resort will have me changing my next 12 months of travel plans.
Best of luck with the concept Gazdog. I'm sure dehumanising the holiday experience will work wonders for you...
Read moreGreat location. Beautiful views from every room. Two great pool areas! The accomodation is certainly short stay self serviced apartments, not really a resort. The room we stayed in was a bit tired. Needs a paint, updated appliances and furniture. Especially lacking for a four person room was only really three seats in the family room. And the couch was sagged and stained. It's sold as a two room apartment, but it's more of a one room (no ensuit) and an alcove with two single beds in it. The doors to the alcove are sliding horizontal slat doors only for viewing privacy, not for sound privacy. For a six night, four person stay we had to ration four dishwashing tablets, two rolls of toilet paper, two bin liners and was asked to provide our own fly spray for the ant problem the room had. The manager did eventually agree to provide his own, after being asked politely. Also we had a person knock on our door to "install" a clothes washer (not sure what the problem was with the one already there? I used it fine!), without them having gone through reception and/or reception letting us know. He soon left when I explained that I wasn't letting him in. The place could be so much better in my eyes. Just needs a little work. And I'm writing this review hoping they'll take the constructive critism. We all still had a fun stay in an absolutely top notch part of Australia. It is well worth a visit and worth a stay at Shingley Beach Resort...... after a few...
