Highball — Restaurant in District of Canberra Central

Used to be my favourite place to unwind and drink with co workers, family and friends. Great food, employees and drinks. Used to be a local legend for bar and recommend mates from all around to go here for drinks. Now it is IMPOSSIBLE to have a seat/walk-in. You will need to pay $$$ to even reserve a seat. Maybe expand the place? The friendly waiter did recommend Molly not the same atmosphere but good enough. Last time we went here there three drunk people that harrassed my family. Maybe also opt in for security at the waiting area as well? :(

Hello thank you very much for replying. To correct your reply this happened The turn away incident happened before covid. I am aware that you guys have rules and regulations. I am just you just need to expand your place to accomodate more people.

2. How am I being entitled? It literally says in your website that you will need to charge 100+ dollars to book a table. So I don’t understand where your sarcasm comes from. All I did was give an honest review.

Booked online for 10 ppl for dinner. Whilst I understood this is a cocktail bar, I still expected that if they took a booking for dinner for that number of people, it would be because they had a table available. Rather, they pulled together a few small round tables (about the size of a side coffee table) and stuck reserved signs on them. Seating was along the benches and stools. Not quite sure how they expected us to eat dinner and converse as a group booking. Raised it with one of the staff members, whose reply was “well we are a cocktail bar”. That’s fine, but don’t book for what you can’t allow a table for in this case. I sent an email to highball with some feedback, no reply. Then got a text saying I had called them, and they were calling me back. I did not call them. The menu did look good, so gave 2 stars. Atmosphere was nice, but again, where we were seated, you could barely hear each other over the music. But the vibe across the venue looked nice. Held off doing a review, but no reply to the email, so...

Exceptionally good cocktails from The Highball Express make for a great night out! Go here on a Saturday and find the place packed out. There’s plenty of seating, and if you can’t find a spot quickly, the bar and leaners make for a more chic experience.

Cocktails are a must, but can vary from a cheap G&T to a classy Old Cuban. The recommendations of the week are up on boards to make choosing quick, but the menu offers fantastically more. The mixologists have a bit of a bias towards rum, but expertly deal with sour flavours on the countervailing end of the cocktail spectrum.

Drinks can be a little expensive, but they are brilliant cocktails. Go with an expectation you’ll be waiting at the bar to order. The great staff are fast but they’re also popular.

Dress standards are pretty loose and will see plenty of muscle boys in t-shirts contrasting glammed up girls and the higher brow.

Go here on a week night for a great atmosphere to chat, enjoy it on the weekend for a buzzing ambiance ahead...
