I had an extremely large piece of Angus for under $30. I asked for medium and it was cooked to exactly medium and not over or under salted. It wasn't the tastiest, (compared to my previous experiences) but certainly a hearty slab of meat with more than your daily requirement of iron and B vitamins. It's a shame you can't cook it yourself; this massive part of Canberra foodie culture is now dead. Kingo's utopian past will forever live on in the nostalgic memories of its patrons/gourmands. The best part of the meal was the bread roll with Pepe Saya butter. I wonder if they still have those these days. Just like Renee Zelweger getting plastic surgery, this restaurant has lost some character and now resembles all the others But the industry is fickle and I understand the pressure to get a fresher look. However, is it worth coming back to? Yes.

Our running group had a group booking for 20 at the Kingston Hotel recently - a Sunday lunchtime gathering for a special occasion. Our two long tables were close to fireplace and it was very warm. The meals were typical hearty ‘pub style’ with a few specials of the day which unfortunately I missed seeing as the salmon looked great. Orders are taken at the counter or there is an on line order option. My chicken parma was ok ( took some home) and the chips were excellent. I also enjoyed a large hot chocolate with marshmallows. The staff were all very pleasant. Overall a good experience except for the noise. It was as very difficult hearing others speak so not sure if ideal for large gatherings unless you can book a more private area. Our group was not quite big enough for that.

We were randomly in the area and needed food! So my partner and I decided to halve a dish each, we got the carbonara and the fried chicken burger to share, both were outstanding! Usually we will have a little pick and leave majority of both meals un eaten, both meals this time got completely finished with little to no scraps! The chicken burger was a perfect balance between chicken, salad and bun ratio. The carbonara was made perfectly, I’m not a huge fan of onions and this dish did have big pieces of onion, but they were cooked to perfection and had a lovely sweet taste that compliments the dish! Will definitely be back, and will recommend to friends! Very reasonable price in comparison to the dishes we received 😊🥰 Regards- two happy full bellies.

Local living in Canberra and decided to try the Kingston hotel out for dinner. It is a very well orchestrated pub that has all people covered from pub food to beautiful dining with comfy chairs and ultra quiet warm areas for that special night, the family or partner.

I ran into Tom and he recommended me the steaks and I'm a carnivore so I couldn't resist and cancelled my order which was the coral trout and glad I did Unbelievable! Perfect Medium Rare and the taste! Such a balanced meal with veggies, mash and mushroom gravy that tasted Perfect and never had to add salt or pepper.

I Highly recommend the t-bone and it was that good I had to suck on the bone😋 juicy and big shout out to the chef as I asked for medium rare and it was perfect all the way through. Never had a better steak at any pub in Australia and I've been a carnivore for 7 years. Tom is a valued member of your team and don't get rid of him as he has wonderful customer service and is genuine. Hard to find staff let alone to find someonet that steps up and knows the menu well. Tom is Super friendly with personality and had no hesitation with recommendations. You can tell that he loves his role in the Kingston Hotel Thankyou for a wonderful Experience Tom and floor staff. I will be bringing my friends from interstate when they are down next for a meal

Honestly, the bar is great and they have some fantastic beers and staff, but this place really, absolutely needs a facelift.

I’m afraid I just have to disagree with the general consensus and say that the environment and atmosphere the pub was dismal, bleak and very stale. I will note the food is fantastic though.

Some of the pool tables are rugged and ripped, the cue sticks are literally almost all broken, and are of a really cheap make and quality (just as the tables themselves); the floor literally is uneven and has random slopes (directly underneath the pool tables as well...) and the decor is absolutely ancient and degraded and the whole place smells like a nursing home.

Don’t even get me started about the poker machines (not slot machines or anything, but ancient poker machines) that are so unrewarding in terms of gameplay and return that it’s perplexing they’re even still keeping them there.

The reason I’m not allocating only 1 star to the Kingston Hotel is because damn, they can cook. The food here is absolutely fantastic, in both the takeaway beside the pub, and the whole DIY grill restaurant. Again, the decor is outdated and totally unacceptable here too, but it’s almost worth it just for the food, and the friendly staff. Almost. Believe me when I say there are better places to get...

This place used to be my favorite in Canberra to becoming something completely different. The staff it’s just disappointing lately and my visit today wasn’t any different. I saw a staff spray cleaning the glass of the salad bar whilst there was food in there. I clearly saw chemical spray falling into the food then I went there to ask why was she doing it whilst there was salad in there and she got very defensive and loud saying she didn’t, she said she sprayed the glass not the food. I was going to get the salad but I’ve decided against it because of the chemicals and went to my table, finished my meal. In the meanwhile I could see they were talking about me on a very bad way me and she resumed to to clean the glass of the Salad Bar. And after thinking about it I decided to explain why did I raise the concern and in case that maybe they don’t know that it would contaminate food. I’ve barely started to explain my concern and the girl stepped out in protest saying she was going to “get rid of the food”. Then I finished the explanation to a guy that was smiling dismissively and almost mocking on me. Really disappointed with the staff and I’m definitely raising this concern with the Food Safety Inspections office, since the dismissive way they’ve done indicates that they do it...
