Little background: I am a chef with 10 years experience in the kitchen, and close to 25 years in hospitality. We took some family who were visiting from interstate, and... Well we were not impressed. There were four of us, and we ordered in two pairs. The waitress asked if we wanted the food sent out together, and we said sure. We ordered a steak sandwich and a pizza on one docket, and a super salad, a pizza and a pizza bread on the second. My steak sandwich arrived first, quite promptly, and I nibbled on some fries while I waited for other peoples food to arrive. After a few minutes people encouraged me to start my meal while we waited for theirs... glad I did. After 5 minutes my wife's pizza arrived and she started on that. We had both finished our meals by the time, after another 20 minutes the pizza bread from the other docket arrived, but not the rest of their meal. The pizza bread was undercooked, and very doughy in the middle. We returned it and they promised to send a new one as soon as possible. 10 minutes later, and one of the two meals (the pizza) from the 2nd docket arrived, along with the recooked pizza bread. Another 10 minutes later and the salad arrived... without the advertised pumpkin, beetroot or walnuts. Keeping up still? 40 minutes between meals arriving on the table, despite "do you want them to arrive at the same time". And after all that 2 out of 5 items returned for poor preperation or missing items. The front of house staff were great, they were apologetic and sympathetic to the issues. They arranged a round of drinks and a refund for the salad with half its ingredients missing. I was told that the problem was "The head chef is away and the chefs are super swamped". There were 16 people in the restaurant, and that is NOT swamped. It had been a year or so since I had visited Siren, and with kitchen issues this bad will most likely be at least that long before I risk going...
Read moreSince moving to Gungahlin in April 2023, Siren Bar and Restaurant has become a favourite place for a lovely meal out, or a quiet catch up with friends for a drink. Have also enjoyed some lovely breakfasts there when we have had family visiting.
I did want to send a HUGE thankyou to all the team for being so accommodating and looking after us for my Grandmother's 100th birthday drinks. Her big night was an early dinner at a restaurant close to her home in Emu Bank, so that she and some of her elderly friends could go home early. We organised for all our family and friends visiting to stay in Gungahlin and suggested drinks after dinner at Siren Bar. I phoned Siren and asked if about 20 of us could come back there at 9pm, following the dinner and they said it was no problem.
Well there was no way in the world that my Grandmother was going to go home early and miss all the fun. She suffers FOMO - in fact it runs in the whole family.
We brought with us to Sirens a Bluetooth speaker and microphone to sing some of the good old Irish and English songs, and everything else that took our fancy. The team had set up a private little space out on the side veranda and we drank our fill, sang, and had a fantastic time. The staff were incredible. We could not imagine a better night for her special occasion, and everyone there is still talking about it three months on. Thank you so much Siren Bar for always being so fantastic with your customer service, food quality, great atmosphere. You made my 100yr old Grandmother very happy, although she was a bit sad when we had to drag her away at...
Read moreVery disappointed. My partner and I are normally regulars and she even gave a well deserved 5 star rating on our last visit just 3 weeks ago. However, after tonight I'm in no rush to return.
I ordered my usual Southern Fried Chicken Burger (which is normally large enough that I can't get my mouth around) what came out was almost as thin as a toasted sandwich. The double stack of thick juicy chicken was replaced with a very thin single strip of chicken and the nice buns has been replaced with what resembled cheap Woolworths burger buns. The chips were cold and the wait time was significantly longer than normal even though we appeared to be one of the first ones there.
On our previous visit the staff were amazing and allowed us to order a small piece of grilled fish for our 18 month old (she doesn't like batted fish) This time we were told it wasn't possible and had to pay $35 for the main course which had less fish than the kids meal we ordered the previous time.
The starter was about the only good thing. But it was quite sad that it was bigger than two of our mains combined.
Smoke was drifting through the restaurant even though we were siting at the opposite end to the smokers pit (admittedly staff did close the windows quickly once they noticed)
Whilst eating we also observed other diners approaching the bar to ask where their food was.
We were excited to go for our anniversary tonight and walked out extremely...
