Gungalin: A Gem in the Capital's Marketplace Crown (4.5 stars)
Gungalin isn't just a marketplace; it's a vibrant tapestry woven from diverse shops, bustling energy, and a convenient location that makes exploring a breeze. As a frequent visitor, I can confidently say it's a shining star in Canberra's market scene, deserving of a solid 4.5 stars.
Location, Location, Location: Let's be honest, accessibility is key, and Gungalin nails it. Nestled right off Gungahlin Drive, it's easily reachable by car, bike, or even public transport. Ample parking ensures you won't be circling for ages, just hop out and dive into the market's lively embrace. This prime spot makes it a perfect weekend escape or a convenient mid-week pitstop for some retail therapy.
A Shopaholic's Paradise: Variety is the spice of life, and Gungalin offers a smorgasbord of shopping experiences. From fresh produce bursting with colour to handcrafted goodies that whisper unique stories, there's something for everyone. Whether you're seeking trendy fashion finds, homewares with personality, or gourmet treats to tantalize your taste buds, Gungalin's stalls are brimming with hidden gems waiting to be discovered. I particularly appreciate the mix of established favourites and exciting newcomers, keeping things fresh and exciting with each visit.
More Than Just Shopping: Gungalin isn't just a transactional experience; it's a community hub. Live music fills the air, buskers serenade shoppers, and the aroma of delicious food entices your senses. It's a place to connect with fellow Canberraites, catch up with friends, or simply soak up the vibrant atmosphere. Family-friendly activities and designated chill zones make it a welcoming space for all ages, adding another layer to Gungalin's charm.
Room for Improvement: While Gungalin excels in many areas, a couple of minor tweaks could elevate the experience even further. Some stalls could benefit from clearer signage to help shoppers navigate the market more easily. Additionally, while the existing food options are delightful, expanding the culinary offerings with more diverse cuisines would be a welcome treat.
Overall, Gungalin is a fantastic marketplace that ticks all the right boxes. Its convenient location, diverse shopping options, and vibrant atmosphere make it a must-visit for anyone seeking a unique and enjoyable shopping experience in Canberra. With a touch of refinement, Gungalin has the potential to become an even brighter star in the capital's...
Read moreWhilst shopping at the Market Place , Gungahlin, on Sunday 12th February 2017 in the afternoon a loud amplified sound started , no one seemed to know what it was , but it eventually turned into another sound interspersed with a voice declaring an evacuation was necessary . Many of the shop staff just looked , and when asked what was going on they said they did not have a clue . ( obvious no induction for some staff members ) . I must confess that I have been involved with many large organizations and evacuation procedures . But this was a mess and I just mention a few :- Retail staff in some shops did not have a clue what was happening . No obvious security , or trained wardens to direct the public . No security or trained wardens on all places of egress to stop people coming into the area that was under evacuation . Although under evacuation , cars were still entering the car park . As we were under evacuation , my wife and I evacuated . We went to our car and left the building as requested . I must confess I would have liked , very much , to stay and assess what was the...
Read moreDO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN SHOP AT KUMO. I am absolutely appalled by the behaviour of the staff at this store. My underage daughter and her friends were followed around the shop by a woman at the front counter, who then began recording them on her personal phone without their knowledge or consent. This is not only deeply inappropriate, it is a serious violation of privacy, especially involving minors. My daughter was respectful, compliant, and even opened her bag when asked—proving she had not stolen anything. Despite this, the staff member continued to harass and film them, refused service, and lied about the filming when confronted. If she had genuine concerns, she could have asked the girls to leave their bags at the front—as many stores do—but that never happened. Instead, they were targeted and humiliated without cause. This behaviour is unprofessional, defamatory, and potentially unlawful. I will be taking this further. Do not support a business that treats children...
