Masala Hut — Restaurant in District of Weston Creek

Mid winter 2025 and the Masala Hut is still as great as ever. Even better really when places all around are adding credit card surcharges and Sunday surcharges, the Masala Hut offers incredible food at very reasonable prices. Dine in or takeaway the standard is so high. Tonight we loved the onion Bhahji (not oily just crunchy yet moist) and tasty vegetable pakoras. Then the Masala Hut Chicken special curry - lots of great flavours and had the potatoes and pea vegetable curry as well as a perfect accompaniment. And you can’t go past their bread - Lachha paratha and plain naan - they have a tandoor and the bread is always amazing. Coupled with a decent wine list and fantastic service it’s always a pleasure to dine here. Two years later - early December 2024 and still haven’t had a better Indian meal anywhere else. Fantastic food, atmosphere and the staff are always friendly and kind. The wine list is very reasonable and you can also BYO bottled wine. The surroundings are relaxing and comfortable- no annoying music and stupid chairs. Everything is designed to provide a place where you can go and enjoy excellent food and service. PREVIOUS REVIEW: We have never had a better Indian meal anywhere. For about fifteen years we have been enjoying dining at The Masala Hut. Tonight was no different - an entree of chicken 65 - one of the best you will ever eat with vibrant, zesty flavours from curry leaves, spices, a good kick of chilli and crispy coated chicken pieces, and also a serve of fantastic samosas with seriously good pastry and a satisfying filling of vegetables that you can taste. You can BYO here and it is very reasonable corkage and also they have a terrific wine list and plus Haywards beer from India - very high in alcohol and does the job with style! For mains we had lamb roganjosh, Masala Hut chicken special and Kerala chicken - the latter a creamy curry with coconut and sure to be enjoyed by everyone. All of them were great, and coupled with basmati rice and laccha parantha, plain and cheesy naan fresh from the tandoori oven everyone was happy! They have many great dishes and this was just what we had tonight but the important thing is they consistently serve reasonably priced meals of a very high standard coupled with friendly and deferential service. I have always enjoyed every meal and interaction at Masala Hut. I have dined on numerous occasions, had countless takeaways and even ordered direct for delivery service over the phone and all have been impeccable.

The food is always delicious, generously portioned and seasoned to perfection. The plain naans are to die for! The Currys are beautifully textured, with loads of chunky veges, cheese or meat (depending on what you order), and there are never any of the thick layers of oil you find at many other restaurants. The vegetable pakoras are amazingly crispy, and incredibly tasty! I could go on... It's all great!

I often order the "Dinner for Two" for myself and 2 friends (3 people total). It's a challenge to finish with just 2 people, and even 3 people will be quite full! It's an incredibly generous serving for the price.

The staff are very pleasant and helpful when ordering takeaways/delivery over the phone and service when dining is very calm and courteous.

The dining area is decorated and furnished very tastefully, and the tables are spaced suitably from other patrons. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful, and there are no distracting TV's.

As for the BYO alcohol, don't forget you have one of the best independent bottle shops in Canberra right next door.

My last review was done over three years ago and if anything, the place is even better now. The takeaway deals are tasty and affordable and I recently attended a birthday dinner where the service and food were excellent.
