Review has been edited after most recent visits: Details below for 21/01/2023 visit....
One of my favourite places to eat in Echuca! Family friendly, pleasant atmosphere, competent staff and the food is great!
The lunch menu offers you an array of substantial, but affordable meals. All served in a comfortable, clean environment.
The regular weekly specials represent great value!
I have been visiting "1895 The Royal" with my family and friends for several years.
I highly recommended it! Check it out online!
Review Update: 21/01/2023
We still continue to visit, but the last couple of visits have definitely seen a decline in service ..... especially staff.
Whilst the venue is clean, meal quality good and toilets remain excellent, the service has diminished due to a lack of table service and an ability to exercise common sense.
There was no follow up before, during and after our dining experience. Listed below are the issues:
Upon arrival, placed under an air-conditioner at table 1, that was blowing a gust across the table. Half an hour to have this rectified. Just needed to be turned off or redirected ..... with the remote.
Complications to our ordering and payment. We had reserved for our group that morning. We were happy to order and pay up front at the bar and be seated wherever there was room. Paying up front seems to work when ordering drinks?? No... can't do. Need to order, eat and pay as one after we eat....even though we were ordering and paying independently. Makes it hard in a cashless society to split at the table.
We ordered the same as we have many times before, but this visit was met with a non willingness to provide us with the same service/requests and food, even though the menu was unchanged.
The parmas for our children were ordered with a slice of pineapple...as we have always in the past. It usually costs an extra $1.50-$2.00. Which is perfectly fine.
We were told that if we wanted this, the $15 lunch Parma will now be $27 because it's become a dinner parma?? Dinner parma"a are a larger serve when compared to the trimmed down lunch serve.... (according to table staff). Our reply... "we don't want the lunch parma made into larger serve ..... Just a slice of pineapple for the kids....this has never been a problem??" "Can't do" We never got the pineapple....not for $12 a slice.
Waiting staff were aware we were frustrated and disappointed. No offer to resolve or call over the manager for assistance.
Before, during and after the meal... No follow up on "how is the meal, how was the meal, can we get you anything....etc." Not even a goodbye or thank you for dining, or how was your experience with us today?" (Wasn't always like this).
One final issue....We requested table service prior to leaving. 20 minutes later, it was still not done. Turns out the staff member left and went home, leaving our request unresolved.
Very difficult to continue to recommend 1895 The Royal after this experience.
Echuca and much of Central Victoria have been devastated by floods. Visiting Moama beach has lost its appeal due to the post flood damage. So have other areas. All the more reason to lift your game and encourage visitors to the region. Support your business and it's patrons....in turn, you...
Read moreThe staff are lovely and the meals seemed to be good, but I just could not cope with the deafening noise in the dining room. I'm sorry, but it's awful. Awful.
Whoever designed a room with nothing but acoustically reflective surfaces should be executed.
Edit for the benefit of the owner, whose reply is below:
Hindsight is a perfect science, and if I knew the sound pressure level in the dining room would be at jet-engine intensity I would not have come at all. However the evening did not start that way, and it would be incredibly embarrassing to inconvenience the dozen or so people I was with to insist that we remove to another location. As it was, I had to leave before my meal arrived because I just could not cope with the noise.
My recommendation for any prospective customers is that they do not eat in the dining area unless they want to scream at each other over the table and not interact with anybody other than the person directly opposite them.
Your staff are great, particularly Amanda, who had our meals packaged to take away, and smoothed out the errors the kitchen made. I appreciate that it was a busy night.
As for the fate of architects, they do not seem to be capable of learning. Execution pour encourager les autres seems the only remaining way to communicate with them.
But you should learn from this. You manage a venue that is intolerably loud, and it would behove you to take feedback on board and improve it rather than push back against polite criticism, even though it was presented with a touch...
Read moreJust been to the royal hotel Echuca and cannot express how fuming I am. With the service and the attitude of the manager. A table of eight who would have spent a fair bit on meals and would have stayed to watch the footy bringing more revenue for the place. Six meals arrived to the table , when the others were almost finished u enquired about the missing two meals. Seems they had been forgotten. 5 mins later they appeared. My one was stone Cold in the Middle. Obviously been put in the microwave and not for long enough. Evening ruined. I was offered a takeaway Parma for feee. I figured yes ok at least I can eat back at our hotel. Manager Ethan comes along, offers to charge me for the takeaway even tho I was told by Wait staff it would be free. Went to pay for hubbys meal and said I would not be paying for my meal which I could not eat. . I also expressed how disappointed I was with the lack of empathy or no offer to compensate for a night ruined. I was told he would do nothing for rude customers. I was at No stage rude, did not raise my voice or swear. I kept my Composure at all times. My husband was fuming and went to speak with Ethan asking that he apologised for his behaviour towards me. He told My husband âI donât need your explanation mate!â We are in Echuca with a very large sporting event and from tonightâs service I can say that those members of the club will never step foot in the royal again. Plenty of lovely places to eat in Echuca and this is not one of...
