Stopped at Cuppaz to grab some takeaway on our drive through Eden on Easter Monday. Let me preface this review by advising that we reside & work full time in a coastal tourism town which attracts over 8 million visitors through a peak season. I totally understand and have suffered the wrath of plenty of impatient, rude tourists and I try very hard not to adopt the same attitude. We understand the tourism influx, staffing issues and that long wait times apply when busy. That said, We ordered 1 x medium box of chips and 1 x box of wedges with sour cream/sweet chilli sauce to takeaway . We were advised of and agreed to pay the 20% PH surcharge. Totally fine with helping to cover penalty rates for staff working public holidays.
What we were not advised of at the time of ordering was that our order consisting of essentially 2 boxes of chips would take just short of an hour. There would have been 15-20 customers seated at the time of ordering. Most had received their orders and were already eating.
We sat patiently while our 1 hour parking time limit ticked away watching a few other orders of burgers and fish served with sides of chips come out and others who ordered after us becoming agitated and losing patience. After what seemed like an unreasonable wait time I did consider cancelling our order in lieu of something ready to go. Sandwiches or a pie perhaps? Nope nothing but a few cakes on display.
I’m not sure if our order was overlooked or they were cooked one chip at a time but when I politely approached the counter to ask for an ETA on our chips I was informed they were just coming up now. I heeded the sign displayed at the counter requesting patience as there were new staff in training but in all honesty, wouldn’t advising surcharge paying customers at the time of ordering be classed as essential basic training? Whilst I have no issue with the idea of paying surcharges. A 20% surcharge is a bit rich for excessive wait times and sub par levels of service don’t you think? As more and more people filed in the door I considered advising them to head over to the pub instead if they were hungry and wanting to actually eat. It’s noted for next time to just go back to the pub where you can order, be served a table of full counter meals, eat and be gone faster than ordering a couple of boxes of takeaway chips at Cuppaz and then have no time to sit outside somewhere to enjoy them before needing to leave your timed...
Read moreDisappointed with my experience in this small town cafe. Ordered a breakfast wrap and a BLT. 45 minutes later we got our food. The wrap had no sauce in it, the server should have asked what sauce we wanted as it’s advertised with sauce. A family placed a large takeaway order after we did and I’m guessing they prioritised that order as they got their food before us. I’m a type 1 diabetic therefore need to take my insulin 20 minutes before I eat. Usually places like this are quick with food so I wasn’t concerned about asking the wait time. I think if the wait time exceeds 20 minutes in a place like that then they should inform customers. After 45 minutes of waiting my blood sugars were dropping and I was just happy the food had arrived. I didn’t inform them of the diabetes issue because I think 45 minutes is a long wait regardless. Hopefully they will read this review and take it on board for future wait...
Read moreThis place may not be as fancy as some of the other cafes in Eden but they more than make up for it with the food and welcoming staff. I have 3 family members who are coeliac and they were able to cater for them easily. My husband ordered a hamburger with gluten free bread and the gentleman came and told us the spice they used for the burger has flour so he could make it a steak burger, no extra charge (which was yummy). The girls behind the counter were polite and helpful when I was working out the gluten free options. They didn't get annoyed or try to rush me as I've had at other places. Our family of five had meals and drinks for under $70 which anywhere else can be $100+....
