A few hours ago my wife and I went, along with our greyhound, to Taylor St Quarters for coffee and a snack. We went to the veranda and looked, but the only space was at two-seat arrangement at the rail, so we ‘began’ to take a seat there, when we were approached by three ladies that were leaving and they made an affectionate fuss of our dog and said we might like to take their table as they were leaving. We thanked them and did indeed take the vacated table.
My wife then went inside to order. Shortly after a young lad brought a slice of cake with cream or ice-cream, asking if that was what we had ordered. Sue said ‘Yes, but we ordered two pieces, and drinks”. He was pleasant but unsure of what to do. He left us, then came back and took the cake saying he would get the correct order for us. Everything was fine. We had plenty of time.
Then a mature lady came to us and asked us to move as the dog was not allowed on the veranda. Sue said okay and asked where we could sit and the lady pointed toward the end of the building and said “Around the corner.” (I might say at this point that we were there a couple of days ago and there were definitely dogs on the veranda) I asked why they were not allowed on the veranda and the lady categorically said, “Because it is against the Law”.
We live in Mandurah and go to the Foreshore there almost every day and I can assure you that none of the establishments there ban dogs from outside verandas.
Strangely, no one had returned with our cake and coffee except the mature lady left and came back with a tall glass of drink which we certainly knew nothing about. I won’t recount every word, but the lady seemed very put-out because we had sat at the other table briefly. What sin we had committed we still don’t know.
I asked a smiling and “Very pleasant young lady” for a refund as we would rather leave. She did so quickly and efficiently.
What chip the older lady had on her shoulder we don’t know, and no doubt we will be blamed. The young people there will know that we were neither rude nor aggressive, but may be afraid to say so.
Obviously, we won’t be back.

Read morePart 1: Just was verbally abused by new female owner of Taylor street cafe Esperance. We pointed out that her signage was misleading re opening hours and I explained the difficulty in working around that with a minor in a wheelchair (my oldest daughter) who I was trying to unload. She replied “get a life” (!!!) and then continued on an unintelligible tirade yelling across her lawn at me and my younger daughter in front of patrons still finishing up on the balcony. Recommend you avoid this place! Such a shame as old owners were so lovely. Overpriced and disgusting service given that we spent $200 for a basic lunch only a day prior, used to come every work visit to Esperance multiple times (I am a front line health care worker), and this is how repeat customers are treated. Another place gone down hill.
Part 2: Thanks for your reply and great job on owning your poor behaviours. That’s the first step on the road to recovery! There are many health professionals, such as myself, who are able to assist you with these behaviours. I encourage you to seek them out so that your business does not further deteriorate. At our hotel and other establishments locally, you are not being held in good regard. The only way you will improve this reputation will be through a focus on customer service rather than bullying customers. You even fabricate a untruthful reply in order to attempt to fight an honest review of your establishment! All the best businesses have a rigorous complaint pathway and process. By not allowing this, you only prove that you are currently not suited to the service industry, and especially not for anyone having access issues, as was the case for my second daughter. At this stage, I will not be recommending your restaurant to any health care workers on secondment to the ED in Esperance. It is my obligation to report misconduct and verbal aggression to the benefit of the broader community. Be well, please, and try to refrain from commenting on any customers appearance in future. It is...
Read moreFrom the moment we walked in this wonderful woman I would call my mother with her heart and guidance, took her time to walk us to a beautiful table that made the whole place so homely. The menu was perfectly select and easy to choose from. You can see the passion the chef has for the industry and pride in his food, that was gorgeously proven when our meals arrived. We halved both meals to divulge deeper into the mouth watering cuisine and couldn't pick a flaw. Every meal was orchestrated to explode strong flavours that not only compliments but enhanced the other flavors of the dish. We would recommend the pork belly and lamb shoulder with all those unbelievable trimmings that weren't even close to labeling sides because they were the strong polar part of the meat that left us in a wonderland of bliss. When chatting back to the front desk mum regarding our pure enjoyment (I made a cheeky joke of requiring a mop for my chair), as passing travellers we asked how often the menu changes so we can bring others back to experience what we did. This enthusiastic high class chef brings out a new menu every 3 months, which not only dictates his confidence, but his desire to create. If we could return every 3 months to praise his newest menu we would, but we live in QLD so we settled on annually returning. Don't let the whingers of reviews deter you from the only restaurant worth dining at...
