Huge disappointment. Usually love pub grub so looked forward to our evening. We ordered the aged steak, the peri- peri chicken burger and the catch of the day. The steak and the fish arrived about 5 minutes before the chicken which was a bit awkward but gave us time to study the plates that had arrived. From the get go the catch of the day seemed a dubious choice, partly because all that sat on the plate was 3 small pieces of fish. No fries and although claiming to have come with salad only a couple of pieces of cooked but cold onion were seen. The fish had been sliced into wedges, with the skin part being the largest, fading into a sliver of fish at the top. The fish was poorly cooked, with parts being over cooked and parts under cooked and was lukewarm at best. Finally, the skin had not been cooked, and was cold and somewhat slimey, and extremely off-putting. The peri-peri chicken burger looked quite good but turned out to consist of 2 large thick slices of bacon hiding 2 very small pieces of chicken, with no taste of peri-peri to be found! The steak was unremarkable, making it the best dish at our table. We passed on our disappointment to the wait-person removing our plates, in what we hoped was a polite non-threatening manner, only to be met with a shrug and a 'whatever' manner. Not the celebration we had anticipated, but certainly one that we won't forget! Obviously the Pier Hotel does not rely on return business. It's unfortunate that it has so little competition in town, which might encourage, if nothing else, a better response to our voiced...

10th October 2 of 5 meals were missed. Approached staff 15 minutes after first 3 of 5 meals arrived and apparently the kitchen forgot to get it done. Wedges missed but did finally arrived but the Roast Pumpkin salad that arrived missed key ingredients like the almonds and mesculan. Disappointing....but regrettably accepted it...... 11th Of October Decided to stop by for dessert for 4 people. 3 arrived as ordered. 1..mine was a Ice cream sundae described as having a waffle basket. Arrived in a Steel cup after 15 minutes of the other deserts being served. I approached the staff member dropped it off and explained the desert was not as ordered and the waffle basket was missing, to which her response was that the waffle was inside the steelcup....what a joke....another staff member then approached and statted to me that the kitchen ran out of waffle baskets and served it in a Steel Cup instead. Totally disappointed by the staff and the kitchen for allowing that to be served up. Another desert was supplied that was a Bailey's Brulee and was terrible..... Word of advice.....never take your patrons as fools.....simply advice them of the fact that ingredients have run out and get them to choose another option.... Once bittern ,twice shy.......never ever...

Not sure if it was a bad day or this is normal now, but the Pier is normally our GoTo when we visit Esperance from Kalgoorlie and we were always guaranteed a good meal.

But tonight it wasnt like it was before. The chicken Schnitzel had hints of fish. Either they reused the oil from cooking a fish for the chicken or the oil wasnt changed. We asked for extra mushroom sauce, we didn't get any (we weren't charged for it but still). It was a pretty high price for just fried chicken breast and coleslaw. 34$. The Rib share plate was just ridiculous. It was 42$ for not even a full rack of ribs and an odd Apple Coleslaw. It was a share for 2 people and not even a full rack of ribs. There wasn't much of a difference between lamb and pork. Kids burger wasn't that bad but, the patty, it was pretty thick almost the size of an IGA bread burger bun for 11$. Good price for a good burger just a little thick for a kids meal.

Drinks 4/5* Service 4/5* Food 2.5/5*

Decent experience but we missed last...

Chilling coldness from the Great Australian Bight in the late evening . Approximately 16 c when I look at the thermometer . We were lucky , our reservation at Pier Hotel confirmed . Mostly you need to book three days or a week before . A succulent 100 aged sirloin steak which weight 350 gram . Smoked juicy medium rare with red wine jus dividing the senses . Just fall in love ! Absolutely delighted ! The second meal was Hawaiian pizza . The mozzarella cheese is cherished at its perfect consistency and straightforward flavour on the surface including special chef sauce and ripe pineapple . Awesome delicious ! The third , seafood hotpot from New Zealand green lip mussels , local prawns , calamari plus local fish in lemongrass and fresh coconut broth where it warm our body and soul . Alluring broth ! " Desirable way of life , enjoying every moments of it ! " Bon Appetite ❤

The place was very crowded when we got there in search of dinner tonight. All the tables looked to have been taken and a few patrons were already getting intoxicated and rowdy. As we entered the venue and still trying to get oriented, a bloke seated right in front of the entrance who looked clearly drunk started abusing us loudly for not scanning the WA Safe QR code. But we had barely stepped in, and we weren't even sure we had a table or if we were going to stay around at all. Food wise, we ordered a good variety, from pasta to burgers and steaks. Most people in our group agreed that food were just average: the steak was bit tough, carbonara pasta was too dry, gnocchi was strange, sandwich was sloppy ... Service was top notch though, but trouble with drunk people and bang average food basically just soured our experience there.
