Evans Head Fishermens Cooperative — Restaurant in Evans Head

Don’t waste your time visiting here. For an establishment that says they are a fresh seafood co-op you would expect the fish to be fresh. We ordered 3 serves of the whiting and chips and it was processed crumbed fish worse than what you would buy yourself at the supermarket. It was over cooked, dry and inedible. The chips were ok but had no salt on them even though we had been asked if we wanted salt. The one star would be for the potato scallop which was also just ok. The manager is rude. We asked if the fish could be battered and the young girl serving us asked the manager how she could put that through the register. She came over and was showing the girl how to do it. Three times she asked us if we wanted it battered and 3 times we answered yes thank you. When we got our order the fish was crumbed and extremely overcooked. The receipt said battered fish so I am not sure how it could have been mixed up as it is there in black and white. After talking with other holidaymakers we shared our experience and they all said they have had a similar experience there and wouldn’t be back. It makes me think the good reviews are made up. Such a shame as we were really looking forward to lovely fresh fish and chips in a lovely setting and were totally disappointed....

I ordered the mega chips, flake , 2 dim sims and three pinapple fritters. The dims sims werent in the bag but the lady said she didnt hear me. Fair enough it happens but she never actually asked me if i still wanted them. The chips where greasy and tastless, the flake was round about the size of my hand. It was fresh and nicely battered but very small but im used to my flake hanging over my plate from my local shop and its in the middle of a forest. The worst by far though was the pineapple fritters. No joke they where the size of an onion ring. About a quater the size of a normal one. When i mentioned it to the girls they appologised and said they had recently been coming in like this. For $2 each it was an absolute rip off. Ive neve done it before but 3/4 of $30 worth of fish and chips went in the bin i would give this place...

Ordered meals for 2 adults and 2 kids. Cant complain about the service. Unfortunately, when we got back to our accomodation to eat we realised they had forgotten to give us the separate chips we had ordered with the meal. The fish was dry and bland. The chips that came with the fish meals looked and tasted like they hadn't even been cooked. As for the chicken salt, there was 1 grain on the entire 4 meals. Overall it was disgusting and we were extremely disappointed. In the end I had to go up to IGA to find some other sort of meal for my daughter. Rest assured we won't ever be going back. Of course I didn't look up reviews prior to ordering, and why should I. But when it was so bad I checked them. I wish I had done so beforehand because there were a lot of similar...
